I am so old that..

As far as I can tell on my first coffee and without my glasses on, you have a non pollinating genetically modified sunflower in your avatar.

If you are trying to say that you are a liberal who is kinder gentler and generally more intelligent (did I read that slag correctly?) why on earth would you have a Monsanto product in your avie?

Oh shit is that a genetically modified sunflower? I had no idea.

No I'm pretty sure I have pissed-off people on both sides of the aisle with my flippant independent streak, but despite my more conservative views, my best friends always end up being liberals, so that must mean something...

Oh that's sad. Some of my best friends are liberal?:D

Too funny. Anyway, you basically called all conservatives stupid and knuckle dragging neanderthals with that post so I just thought I'd have some fun poking back at you about the sunflower avie.

And if I am correct, stupid as I am as a conservative(I always have to remember how stupid I am when talking to a liberal ), it's a sunflower that is pollen free out of Johnny's.

No, I consider myself a conservative, so don't be stupid and put words into my mouth. I recognize that many Republicans who call themselves conservative aren't actually living up to the meaning of the word, and when certain social issues clash it is usually the liberals I agree with... Stupid people on both sides of the aisle have an equal opportunity to kiss my Independent ass, because I'm kind like that... :D

No one called Kennedy a commie. Not in the 60's or the 70's or the 80's or the 90's until now.

I believe socialism (e.g. "socialized medicine") is the word radical right wingers more commonly used to describe his policies. Similar to the current guy.

Bullshit.

What history have you been taught?

Anyway, there isn't much to dispute at this point. For instance, below is rightwing stooge Ronald Reagan speaking out against Kennedy's "socialized medicine" proposals in 1961 as part of the AMA's Operation Coffee Cup effort to destroy Kennedy's Medicare bill (you can see Kennedy's 1962 rebuttal to this kind of rightwing fearmongering in my thread: http://www.usmessageboard.com/politics/241244-the-president-makes-the-case-for-medicare.html Join us!).

Here's how Reagan begins his alarmist and absurd attacks on the "socialism" Kennedy was proposing with Medicare: "Back in 1927 an American socialist, Norman Thomas, six times candidate for president on the Socialist Party ticket, said the American people would never vote for socialism. But he said under the name of liberalism the American people will adopt every fragment of the socialist program."

Sounds so familiar. It's almost as if this baseless alarmism gets rehashed every time a Democrat holds the presidency.

I understand why you'd want to claim JFK now and disown the rightwing nutjobs who called him a socialist for his social spending priorities and his pro-union stances. But your ilk have a long history of tarring liberals and social reformers, including Kennedy, as "socialists."
