Hurricane Irene: aiming for SC or NC coast

The storm has weakened to 100 mph.

That's a completely different animal than 115+.

So we are staying home.

 So 115 is a big deal but 100 isn't? OK.....

Yes.

I've been through God knows how many of these hurricanes.

It will be 85 mph by the time it gets to us.
Not sure where you are but FYI "only" 100mph hurricanes (and Irene is somewhat less than that now) can be extremely dangerous, and this one is no exception. It isn't just about wind speed, but the extensive flooding, which is the biggest concern about Irene.

The power is out. Thank God for mobile broadband.

The wind and the rain are suprising light right now. We only had one mini burst of rain and wind, but it was enough to knock out the power. Too many trees around the power lines.

You're right, it's just a hurricane. No big. Why don't you go sailing on off Carolina shores tonight and let us know what a yawn it is?...

Only a moron would do that.

I wonder what the Navy and Coast Guard would say to that accusation......... :eusa_whistle:

Same here but power flickering, not out (yet). Winds picking up, rain harder but not ridiculous. Stay safe all.

It stopped raining, so I took a walk outside. It was pretty exciting.
There were some teenage girls walking their dog as well.

It reminds me of Bob Dillon's Talking World War III Blues.

"Lit a cigarette on a parking meter and walked on down the road."

"It was a normal day."

Or Hurricane hunter pilots.

Those guys are nuts. All the data can be gathered by satellite.

Power out 3 days now (I am out of town). About 3/4 of all Virginia knocked out. Good ol Dominion Power, they sure know how to build sturdy lines  May be without till Sat or more from what I hear, although the pre-recorded message keeps saying "it should be back today"........sigh...
