Hugo Chávez: people's hero

No. He's dead.

While I have no desire to see people die. I can't say Im going to get too upset over this. He is in God's hands now and he will be accountable for what he has done.

You mean like bringing clean water, food, health care, education, and hope to villagers who lived in squalor while American oil companies exploited the natural resource wealth of their nation?

The idiot nationalized their oil industry. It's called PDVSA.
Chavez was the exploiter of their natural resource wealth and they still live in squalor.

1. The Venezuelan oil industry has been nationalized since the 1970s.
2. He's an "exploiter" by giving back to people something that was theirs in the first place.

After receiving top notch cancer care in the People's Republic of Cuba, Hugo Chavez has died.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate than the good ol' USA despite the fact that, according to conservatives, America has "the greatest healthcare system in the world."

Did you rethink your comment about American oil companies?

While American oil companies may be constrained as to what they can do and how they can operate here in THIS country, they certainly don't have those same limitations in foreign countries if and when a local strong arm dictator can be convinced, cajoled, threatened, or bribed in order to sell out the interests of his own countrymen for a slice of the action. And since a continuous flow of sweet light crude oil is considered an absolute necessity to the economic well-being of our country in order to (among other things) maintain our way of life (translation: maintain our standard of living), our leaders pretty much look the other way.

But guess what? Hugo Chavez wasn't willing to play ball with us? That SOB actually had the nerve to put the interests of his own people above the interests of ours (and by OURS, of course I also mean the interests of American oil company executives and investors). So, of COURSE our gov't and powerful interests in this country demonized him as if he was evil incarnate.

There's good reasons why Chavez is both loved and hated in his own country. He bucked the previous old-boy network and started allowing the benefits of that vast oil wealth of his country to be shared among the citizens of the country instead of just being divided among a small number of people who were well-connected.

You know who he reminds me of in that regard? Former Governor Sarah Palin. One of the finest acts she ever performed while in office was to restructure the State of Alaska's arrangements with the oil companies which ultimately benefited the citizens of the State and, I believe, lowered their taxes, as well as gave them a small share of their oil wealth.

Pretty good cancer treatment in the people's paradise of Cuba huh? Maybe we could convince all the hollywood celebrities who admire Cuba to go there for medical treatment.

Which, of course, never happened.
Wrong, try again.

I'm with Congressman Ed Royce,

“Hugo Chavez was a tyrant who forced the people of Venezuela to live in fear," Royce said. "His death dents the alliance of anti-U.S. leftist leaders in South America. Good riddance to this dictator."

Amen to that, the world is a little better place this morning.

So OL'Hugo kicked the bucket huh.

Of course his people kept electing him so I'm guessing they liked him and what he did for Venzuela.

Wonder who will take his place and if any of the newspapers, radios shows and television will start giving the citizens the real scoop on whats going on??

Can't say I'll miss him. He wasn't quite the little troll Kim Jung Il was but he wasn't much better.

Really fear? Thats why he was freely elected multiple times?

A self-proclaimed socialist and revolutionary, he won enduring support among the poor and repeated election victories by using Venezuela's oil wealth to pursue socialist policies.

His government has implemented a number of "missions" or social programs, including education and health services for all, something the workers never had there.

Imagine that! Using Venezuela's natural resources for the people even helping people on fixed incomes in the United States with winter heating oil. Yes he was a very very bad man (to corporations and imperialists)

Don't bother.

These are folks that supported really bloody dictators like The Shah of Iran, Pinochet, Marcos and until he went "feral", Saddam Hussien. They shoveled money at Osama Bin Laden and pardoned Orlando Bosch. They made deals with Gaddafi.

Chavez may have been a 2 bit thug and done some pretty undemocratic things, like roll their own constitution..but that came with "goodies" for the improverished Venezulans. Conservative only like Dictators that give out goodies to the rich.

You can start with telling me where I am wrong..

The Shah of Iran was installed by Eisenhower.
Nixon installed Pinochet.
Reagan/Bush - Encouraged the Iraq/Iran war, funded Osama Bin Laden, pardoned Orlando Bosch.
Bush II made deals with Gaddaffi.

There.

That's were all the bodies are buried.

As soon as any foreign leader of a resource rich country has the audacity to nationalize those resources and share the profits with the people of that country...that leader becomes an enemy of America. If they don't cooperate we send in the Jackals.

And if the jackals can't get to a leader, as was the case with Saddam Hussein, we send in our sons and daughters to die for oil.
