Conflicting reports? Less than two weeks after a mysterious explosion destroyed an Iranian missile base near Tehran, the Islamic Republic's official news agency Fars reported Tuesday that a loud blast was heard in the city of Isfahan at 2:40 pm local time, but later removed the report.

According to the initial report, search and rescue teams called to the scene confirmed the blast, but reported no injuries.

Iran's uranium conversion plant is located just outside Isfahan – one of the country's largest cities.

The report also stated that a security official confirmed that the explosion had occurred, but refused to give further details.

Ropey...you guys have this all wrong!

The sound was the arrival of the long awaited Twelfth Imam!!!!

"Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Mahdī (محمد ابن الحسن المهدى) (born c. July 29, 869; 15 Sha‘bān 255 AH) is believed by Twelver Shī‘a Muslims to be the Mahdī, an ultimate savior of humankind and the final Imām of the Twelve Imams. Twelver Shī‘a believe that al-Mahdī was born in 869 and did not die but rather was hidden by God (this is referred to as the Occultation) and will later emerge with Isa (Jesus Christ) in order to fulfill their mission of bringing peace and justice to the world. He assumed the Imamate at 5 years of age. Some Shi‘īte schools do not consider ibn-al-Hasan to be the Mahdī, although the mainstream sect Twelvers do.

Mahdi is reported to have said:

Shi'as believe that Imam al-Mahdi will reappear when the world has fallen into chaos and civil war emerges between the human race for no reason. At this time, it is believed, half of the true believers will ride from Yemen carrying white flags to Makkah, while the other half will ride from Karbala, in Iraq, carrying black flags to Makkah. At this time, Imam al-Mahdi will come wielding Allah's Sword, the Blade of Evil's Bane, Zulfiqar (Arabic: ذو الفقار, ðū l-fiqār), the Double-Bladed Sword. He will also come and reveal the texts in his possession, such as al-Jafr and al-Jamia."

The 'explosion' was Mahdi leaving his cave!!

Either that or Santa making an early appearance.
Could be?

If Iran keeps going on this course they will have alot more blasts in the future.

somehow i think they're ok with that.

Iran is going to be in some deep shit, not only does the US not want them to go nuclear but neither does Israel or any of Irans Arab neighbors in the Gulf, they definently need to expect alot more unexplained explosions if they are going to carry on acting like dicks.

FOX News Channel reported the Pentagon and the International Atomic Energy Agency both said they had no reports of an explosion in the city, which has a uranium conversion plant nearby.

At the State Department, spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at the daily briefing, "we don't have any information other than what we've seen in the press…but we're looking into it."

Iran starts enriching uranium to 20 percent
Tuesday 10th January, 2012 - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iran has started enriching uranium to the 20-percent level, which can easily be turned into fissile warhead material.
'The IAEA can confirm that Iran has started the production of uranium enriched up to 20 percent using IR-1 centrifuges in the Fordo Fuel Enrichment Plant,' the agency said in a statement. However, IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said that all nuclear materials and operations in the Fordo facility are 'under the Agency's containment and surveillance'. Iranian officials earlier said the Fordo plant, deep inside the mountains near the central Iranian city of Qom, was build to produce 20-percent uranium needed for a research reactor in Tehran, which produces medical isotopes to treat cancer patients.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereydoon Abbasi said last August that Iranian authorities planned to transfer all enrichment facilities from a plant in Natanz to Fordo, citing insufficient security. He also said Iran had no plans to enrich uranium to higher than 20 percent. The news is likely to further increase tensions between Iran and the West over the country's clandestine nuclear research. Western nations suspect Iran of pursuing a secret weapons program, while Tehran says it needs nuclear research for peaceful energy purposes. Negotiations have been stalled for 12 months.

The IAEA statement has already triggered harsh statements from diplomats in the US and Europe. 'This is a further escalation of their ongoing violations with regard to their nuclear obligations,' State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters. 'The fact that the IAEA has made clear that they are enriching to a level that is inappropriate at Fordo is obviously a problem,' she said.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague described the move as 'a provocative act that undermines claims that the program is civilian in nature'. The German foreign ministry expressed hope that the European Union will agree on a fresh round of sanctions against Iran during a meeting Jan 30, because the start of operations at Fordo was 'a step of further escalation'. 'With it, the international community's concern that the Iranian nuclear program is serving military purposes is growing,' the ministry said in a statement. 'So long as Iran does not move, there is no alternative to tough sanctions,' the statement said.

US tells Iran to stop uranium enrichment programme
Tuesday 10th January, 2012 - The United States has asked Iran to suspend its enrichment of uranium at an underground facility and comply with UN resolutions, in a latest development adding to the already strained relations between the two countries.
The US warning comes even as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently on a visit to Venezuela, received strong backing from President Hugo Chavez. The UN's nuclear watchdog had confirmed Monday that Tehran had begun enriching uranium up to 20 per cent at its northern Fordo plant, near Qom, in the north of the country. According to analysts, 20 per cent enrichment is a crucial step towards making uranium weapons-grade. However, Tehran maintains it is for purely peaceful purposes - to produce fuel for future reactors and medical radioisotopes needed for cancer patients.

The uranium enrichment operations at the bunker-like facility south of Tehran was reported by the Kayhan daily newspaper. The underground labs are shielded from aerial surveillance and protected against airstrikes by up to 300 feet (90 meters) of mountain rock. The Fordo facility was long kept secret and was acknowledged by Iran after it was identified by Western intelligence agencies in September 2009.

In a statement, US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said: "We call on Iran, once again, to suspend enrichment activities, co-operate fully with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and immediately comply with all [UN] Security Council and IAEA board of governors resolutions." The United Kingdom and France have also condemned Tehran's move. Venezuela President Hugo Chavez, in strong backing for Iran, told Ahmadinejad: "They present us as aggressors," referring to US government officials. "Iran hasn't invaded anyone. Who has dropped thousands and thousands of bombs... including atomic bombs?"

The stand-off between Iran and the West has increased after the US imposed new sanctions on Iran's central bank and the European Union said it would place an embargo on Iran's oil exports. Iran has also threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz - a strategic route from the Gulf through which 30 per cent of the world's traded oil passes and held a 10-day naval war games near the strait. In another development adding to the tension, a court in Tehran on Monday sentenced to death a US national of Iranian descent accused of being a CIA spy.

More than likely it's any number of Israeli, American and/or British Special Forces blowing stuff up. In advance of what? We'll know that soon enough.
