Howard Zinn: A Communist and a Liar

It's the simple things in life that make a person happy.

That's not my concern. If TM wishes us to read something at a link, she can provide a live one.

I highly doubt she has read all of the materials the FBI has on Zinn, btw - she never bothers to read the content at her source links.

entitlement mentality, no personal drive. typical.

Hardly at all. TM has a history of posting links she hasn't bothered reading. If she doesn't have the courtesy to provide commentary or a live link, I'm not interested in doing her homework for her. I'd rather spend my "drive" on more rewarding activities.

Now, don't you have some flies in need of wings being removed with which to occupy yourself?

Are you claiming you read teh entire file?

No you didnt did you?

You accepted the bullshit from some right wing hack as truth and now you cant proove the FBI file says what the idiots claim.

You read it and proove your source was tellikng the truth.

They werent and even you now know it.

You didn't read the source file which you claimed didn't include what he said.

It is filled with references to communist associates and activities on Zinn's part; many of which I have read.

The FBI website itself notes:

Returning from the war, he became involved in a number of left-wing political causes, some of them associated with the activities of the Communist Party of the United States (CPUSA).

http://foia.fbi.gov/foiaindex/zinn_howard.htm

(note, I provide a live url, unlike the dead ones you post.)

Despite Zinn's denial, there is a ton of info with Informants claiming they saw him at meetings, etc.

You lose.

Boedicca, why do you even bother to get involved with that dimwit Obamarrhoidal crunt TruthDOESN'TMatter ? Or, the other fucktards like LuissaPissa

Just use them as your toilet bowl and be done with them.

I use these turds to inform my fellow anti-Liebs of thisa and thata...once that is done, I move on.

"received informant reports that Zinn was an active member of the CPUSA"

why do you people continue to lie?

this is ALL it says about informants.

They aslo stopped investigating him for some reason too.

I guess he was guilty of nothing huh?

No ton or even mention of the reliabilty of the informants.

You are racist piece of shit, so I can imagine you like to shit on everything you come in contact with. And I highly doubt Boedicca wants anything to do with you. Go away moron!

I expect. I would also think the government would have the basic competency to post a pdf on a website.

Guess not.

stoopit gobmint. why can't they tell me how to open a pdf.
I know how to open a pdf. The government you want to run your life doesn't know how to post one on the internet.

i can open the pdf's. as usual, the problem is not the gubmint or the program, but the user.
you asked before if i could open this pdf. yes, i could. you can't? your problem.

When a student at Rutgers in the early-mid 70's, I heard Zinn lecture and met him.
At that time, the card-carrying Communist professors (yes, a few carried cards and were not shy about admitting being party members) considered Zinn more of an anarchist than a socialist or communist, and were not overly pro or anti Zinn.
The main thing I remember about the lecture was that Zinn spoke about his theory of 'controlled anarchy', which was a novel theory at that time.

*shrug*

Not like any quotations from the documents will sway the Zinn defenders anyway. Hell, they don't even see anything wrong with Communism to begin with!

With him and others like him in control, I'll bet.

Zinn confused more, than won advocates concerning his anarchy 'hypotheticals'. But, for the time, he was pro-civil-rights, anti-Vietnam war, so Communists and Socialists were more pro, not estatically tho', then against Zinn.
Zinn really was not pro-socialist. That, I do know.

In fact Dave-er, Zinn was actually anti-communist:

"The victors of WWII were the Soviet Union and the United States. both these countries now went to work - without swastikas, goose-stepping, or officially declared racism, but under the cover of 'socialism' on one side, and 'democracy' on the other, to curve out their own empires of influence. They proceeded to share and contest with one another the domination of the world, to build military machines far greater than the Fascist countries had built, to control the destinies of more countries than Hitler, Mussolini, and Japan had been able to do. They also acted to control their own populations, each country with their own techniques - crude in the Soviet Union, sophisticated in the United States -- to make their rule secure."
From Zinn's 'A People's History of the United States'.
Zinn, was a unique thinker, at the least.

Funny how calling Zinn a communist was considered "red baiting" and paranoid.

And now Communism is no big deal. Hell, it's a pretty good system! It never worked before because the US never let it succeed!

It only killed a hundred million people. Let's give it another chance!

Right, USMB "progressives"?
Now tell us how many millions capitalism has killed?

What's the USAF's contribution to that number?

Hypocrite.

No argument there. But given his fantastic distortions of history, I'd take everything he said with about a cubic yard of salt. And that includes his personal opinions, too.

You tell me, George. Now, quick, make up a big scary number!
What's the USAF's contribution to that number?

Hypocrite.
Quite small, actually. The USAF was created in 1947.

Hey, have you ever spit on a veteran? Oh, that's right. You couldn't have. You're a coward.

Seventeen years after his Brooklyn birth in 1922, Howard Zinn accepted the dare of some young communists in his neighborhood to attend a political rally in New York's Times Square.

"Suddenly I heard sirens sound and I looked around and saw the policemen on horses galloping into the crowd and beating people, (Howard) told AP. "I couldn't believe it."

"And then I was hit. I turned around and I was knocked unconscious. I woke up sometime later in a doorway, with Times Square quiet again, eerie, dreamlike, as if nothing had happened.

"I was ferociously indignant."

It was Howard's combat experience during WWII as a bombardier that made him question war and capitalism's existential need for it. After the war ended, Howard enrolled as a 27-year-old Freshman at New York University on the GI Bill while working nights loading trucks to support his family.

Howard's blue collar roots stretched through his master's thesis at Colombia where he probed the Colorado coal strikes of 1914, and his doctoral dissertation which depicted Fiorello LaGuardia's congressional career as the "conscience of the twenties (fighting) for public power, the right to strike, and redistribution of wealth by taxation."

Those fascists Howard helped blow away in Europe couldn't hold a candle to today's Wall Street versions. Maybe the saddest part of Howard's death comes from realizing that most Americans today are too divided by red and blue contrivances to get ferocious or indignant about the current slow motion corporate/Pentagon coup taking place.
