How would you Balance the Budget?

Yes we do have a revenue problem.

It comes from fucking idiots saying if you cut taxes you get more revenue.

That is some idiot stuff

What's idiotic is continually asking for more taxes when you're WASTING the taxes that you're already getting.

This really isn't rocket science, TM...so maybe even "you" can understand it. Our government is like a bucket riddled with gaping holes...the more water (ie revenues) we pour in...the more gushes out. The solution isn't to pour in more water...the solution is to plug up the holes.

Fuck you , I understand it just fine.

You keep pretending we are raising taxes when they have been cut.

Do you remember Bush saying the tax cuts were temperary?

Now they are untouchable according to the right.

if he said It as if that is ALWAYS the case when you cut taxes then YES he was being an idiot

Funny thing, TM...when Kennedy acted like an "idiot" (according to you) by cutting taxes, that actually DID lead to an increase in revenues. Gee, what does that say about your viewpoint?

You keep pretending that there aren't holes in the bucket. Duh?

I always have to laugh at the woefully and willfully ignorant who say that to balance the budget, all we need to do is cut the military. Right now, the military is becoming increasingly incapable of carrying out all of the duties that we require of it. Additionally, if you had even the simplest of clues, you would understand that yet once again, the American military is being asked to do the almost impossible with possibly the most outdated equipment that it has had to use in the last 100 years. Course, that would require a minimal amount of research, reading, and an understanding of how the military figures into global geo-politics. Quite a requirement for those of you who are into knee-jerk hack politics and left-wing talking points grounded in fantasy.

Let's remember here, that there are people (and nations) in this world that want you dead simply because of what country you are a citizen of (think 9-11 and the 3,000+ that died), what that country stands for (freedom, equality, opportunity), and because those things do not mesh with their idea of what the world should look like (religiously OR politically). Right now, we spend about 600 Billion dollars a year on defense. Like entitlements, most of that is paychecks, providing healthcare, and other personal benefits to those serving. We ask MORE from them than you would ever give and they give it willingly. And now, those on the left want to take even more from them. Hopefully, if a RESPONSIBLE person is elected to the White House, then we can begin to replace some of those systems that are OVER 50 years old and are in desperate need of attention. The B-52, the Sea King Helicopter, the C-130, the A-10, the Minuteman III, and the list goes on and on. We need 16 ACTIVE divisions in the US Army. We need more than the 290 ships we have in the Navy now (more like 400) and we need 12 active carriers (not the 10 we will have in the next 2 years). We need an ICBM that doesn't use electronics developed in the 60's and we need TWO full wings of B-2 bombers on active duty. And there is more.

Let's remember that China WANTS Tiawan. The only thing standing in the way is the 7th fleet and the equipment that we sold the Taiwanese. North Korea WANTS the south. The 2nd Division is headquartered less than 25 miles from the DMZ and there are 30,000 US Army and Air Force soldiers stationed there. When the tsunami struck Indonesia, it was the American military that arrived within 24 hours to conduct rescue operations. When the Somali pirates began taking ships off the horn of Africa, it was the US Navy who thwarted a number of those attempts (although we've had to cut back recently because of a lack of resources). Iran is pursuing a nuclear device and already has a missle that can reach Europe (thanks to Pakistan). Those interceptor missles in Poland and the Czech Republic are the only thing standing against nuclear black mail. Same for those missle interceptors in Alaska for the North Koreans. And when 9/11 happened it was the US Navy that flew CAP over New York city for the first time in our history and it was the National Guard who placed anti-aircraft batteries surrounding the Washington Monument.

The way you cut the deficit is by passing a balanced budget amendment and FORCING the Congress to step up to it's responsibilities (like passing a budget - something the Senate Democrats won't do). Then you go back to the same amount of spending that you had in 2003, AFTER you disband the Department of Education and the GSA to begin with. Freeze federal hiring, freeze federal pay raises and pass a law that says that they must do EXACTLY what private sector employees do. 401K's, etc.

That is the way you balance the budget... not with some worn-out left-wing fantasy talking points.

So I guess JFK was an idiot when he did just that?

JFK cut the top rate from 91% to 70%. He also closed a good many tax loopholes. That was a big part of why revenues went up.

But heck..70% on top earners? Sounds about right.
