How We Know Republicans Are Responsible For The Shutdown

The GOP passed Medicare D. Subsidized medicine for old people. Who vote. And are whiter than the general population. Just sayin'.

Ted Cruz called the ObamaCare subsidies "sugar" which the Democrats were trying to get Americans addicted to. Creating more dependence on government, and in this he is absolutely correct.

Unfortunately, the GOP is not true to the philosophy which opposes this dependence on government. The GOP is equally guilty in creating a dependent class. It's all about the sugar.

When you take a tax deduction, you are forcing someone else to make up the difference. You are forcing someone else to pay more of their income to the government. You are part of the more than one trillion dollars a year being forced onto the backs of others to pay for all those deductions. Your combined sugar dwarfs that of the people who are on welfare.

And just like someone on welfare or receiving a subsidy, you will rationalize taking that handout. And you will argue that it would be stupid to leave it on the table if the government is giving it away. Your thinking is identical to that of someone on food stamps or who is going to receive a federal subsidy on the health insurance exchanges.

We are ALL addicted to the sugar. We all sold our souls.

Gimme gimme gimme, and make that guy over there pay for it.

If Ted Cruz or the Tea Party or the GOP were really about eliminating government dependence, they would be targeting the astronomically biggest tit of them all: tax expenditures.

At least ObamaCare made a half-hearted attempt to pay for itself. But to pay for your tax deductions, we are borrowing trillions from foreign governments and forcing everyone to pay higher tax rates.

Let's see Cruz lead a charge to shut the government down over home mortgage interest deductions. Then I will believe he is sincere.

Too funny, like a true progressive you assume the people's money actually belongs to the Gov and anything we get to keep we should be "thankful" for...not a very ":enlightened position of old time "republican".

LOL...again same bullshit. Cut spending...but that escapes your "Progressive" mind.

The GOP knows that if ObamaCare launches and then runs for a whole year, a lot of the kinks will get worked out, and millions and millions and millions and millions of people will grow to like it. A lot.

NOBODY knows that, not even you oh omniscient one, but thanks for all of that speculation.

The GOP knows it, which is why it is fighting tooth and nail to prevent it from happening. I know it. A lot of people know it.

Ted Cruz openly admitted it.

Wake up.

Again, thanks for all of the speculation.

Your like a kid slamming his hands over his ears.

Here is Cruz admitting it:

If we don’t do it (defund Obacare) now, in all likelihood, Obamacare will never, ever be repealed. Why is that? Because on January 1, the exchanges kick in, the subsidies kick in. Their plan is to get the American people addicted to the sugar, addicted to the subsidies, and once that happens, in all likelihood, it never gets repealed.

What you don't get through your thick head is this belief is the motive behind the shutdown. Perception is reality. It is what the Tea Partiers believes, and they are acting on that belief.

It's a simple economic fact. Tax expenditures are a cost. They are on the SPENDING side of the ledger. Ask any economist and learn something. The American people are addicted to the sugar of tax expenditures and the GOP is a big supporter of them.

You've been brainwashed for so long you can't see straight. Both parties rely on a dependent class, and you are a member of the Republican dependent class. The parties are two sides of the same coin, spending $trillions a year to keep 535 people employed.

Conservatives are united in their belief that government spends much too much and that spending ought to be cut sharply. But they almost universally ignore de facto spending through the Tax Code even though many tax provisions are functionally identical to spending. These “tax expenditures” not only hemorrhage revenue unnecessarily, but they distort private decision-making, create unfairness and reduce economic growth.

Spending Through The Tax Code - Forbes

There are two ways to look at the vast buffet of tax credits and deductions that Congress offers through the tax code. One is that these are essentially tax cuts. People making mortgage interest payments keep a bigger chunk of their paychecks than they otherwise would. A firm that offers its employees health insurance pays less in taxes than it would if it spent that money on extra wages.

The other way to look at these credits and deductions is that they’re essentially government spending programs in disguise. After all, if these deductions didn’t exist, then either the deficit would be smaller or everyone else could pay fewer taxes. A tax credit that subsidizes the construction of affordable housing is no different than an explicit grant to do the same thing.

Deficit hawks have often advocated tax-reform policies that would wipe out a lot of the deductions and credits.

Amazing some people think I'm a liberal

actually it is amazing that you think anyone would consider you anybody else, except a leftie

your "talking points" are straight from gazeta pravda, excuse me, MSNBC

When middle America discovers how thoroughly screwed they are with higher premiums, high deductibles and co-pays the dems will have problems getting anyone elected even in blue states. All the goodies have already been had, now the pain starts and people won't like it.

This government shutdown seems to be a total surprise to Republicans, they seem innocent of the whole thing, how it happened, who is responsible and so forth.

It might work.

I agree with tax reform......rates drop loopholes, deductions etc. closed.

sure, I agree there too. But I am having a problem figuring out where you fit yourself in this, do you really think obamacare is 'good' for the country, forget the software glitches , I expected that and its a not really a fair critique on day one, now, day 60? or 90? yea , it is.

What about long term? Is this 'good'?

Tax reform should be done as a must every 30-35 years - because the pork will make ANY law originally passed irrelevant in that time.

Same should be considered for any social safety network laws - they should be reformed or adjusted according to the new economic, demographic and social situation every 25-30 years.

When middle America discovers how thoroughly screwed they are with higher premiums, high deductibles and co-pays the dems will have problems getting anyone elected even in blue states. All the goodies have already been had, now the pain starts and people won't like it.

As if higher premiums , high deductibles and copays are some brand new thing.

The GOP had unified power for years under Dumbya, and did nothing to rising premiums and higher deductibles except tell Americans that its the free market at work. They did hand Iraq over to Iran, though. Nice priorities.

No wonder Mitt lost.

LOL....ths isn't about Cruz or what he says, so you like Ted eh?

It's about :
A) Being able to think for myself
B) Working in Insurance and seeing the reality of what this

So pardon me for not joining you in sucking Ted's teet.

It is love of your party and not of your country that gets us into these situations. It is what has gotten us into these situations in the past. One does not love his party, he loves his country. For that reason, both parties are responsible for this shutdown. Anyone taking sides on this issue is foolish.

You are taking sides.

Do you think you will be seen as non-partisan now?

Try harder. Both parties my ass.

This is what happens when you ram a plan through solely on major majorities in the house and senate despite public opinion which is against this horrid law.

they didnt ram and only 25% or so didnt want to law period at the time

LOL, you mean you have bought into the progressive spin.

Sorry, the money "belongs" to the people who EARN it, and that is what is lost on Washington and progressives like yourself.

Again I can think logically about this and not simply parrot the Gov line.

Letting people keep their own money is not a Gov "expenditure" unless one is a Gov stooge...get the picture?

Please, stop pretending to be a "Republican", you look silly.

both sides are to blame, but the GOP takes the bulk of it. They both have had numerous chances to deal with this and nothing has been done about it. They both kicked the can down the road till what we have now.

The Gop is to blame more so this time for trying to get rid of obamacare.

Didya wanna make the case that premiums are now lower?

They are lower than anticipated. Same thing happened with the costs of Medicare D, which was passed back when new entitlements were apparently okay (that is, when passed by the GOP, the party of small government & free markets ) .

Both sides are chock full of politicians and both sides cater to special interests. But only one side is willing to fuck this country over to protect them.

The blame is not equal. The GOP has engineered a calculated effort to turn back the progress that we have made in this country.......poke holes in the safety net, kill unions, supress wages, fuck over the poor, divide based on race, gender and socio-economic status and supress the vote.

ThenDemocratic party has been playing defense for half a century. Both to blame my ass.
