I'm perfectly okay with most people owning guns. It's the nuts that shouldn't have them. There needs to be a way to weed out the nuts. And owners need to be more responsible for their guns instead of letting them be stolen at such great rates.

Not saying someone's name does absolutely nothing.

When the motivation for every mass killing is obvious (the killer wanting attention), then not mentioning their name not only is effective, it appears to be the only solution. Use logic. It's a great Rx for many ills...

They still get the attention. All the victims families know who it is.

You see, I disagree. I think that for decades these young male shooters and killers have been trying to get attention from their families to no avail. When they turn to mass killings, they turn to society instead to placate their temper tantrums with attention. Society being that "new foster parent" must respond with "no cookies for Jr when he acts up". Other would-be layabout disgruntled 20-something male castaways looking on might not be so inspired if they felt the attention they were looking for would never be had from society-parent..

If society-parent refused as a matter of law to give Jr. the attention he wants, then Jr. might turn the gun on original parents. Then you'd watch them getting their disturbed sons away from violent video games and an upbringing of no structure and aimless neglect in a nanosecond.. And the source of the problem would cure itself. An equal dose of love and discipline, neither one overbearing, is what churns out solid young men who would never consider in the remotest way such a crime. You either bring your sons up this way or pay the price yourself. Society no longer will pay that price for you.

If you want to neglect or abuse your precious son and not get him the help he needs, then you pay the price, not a bunch of innocent kids at a school who don't even know who you are.

15-minutes of fame is getting out of hand. Time to act to put a stop to the motivation.

Given nearly every shooter's motive for doing these killings, the only law that should be passed should be that in any mass shooting or killing, the perpetrator's name cannot be mentioned....ever...period. And anyone who does so in major media does jail time mandatory, because just fining them wouldn't work. They'd gladly pay it for the PR advertising fund inflow. Anyone in minor media (social media) gets a mandatory stiff and punitive fine.

An agreement with media would be nice, but a law would be unconstitutional.

It would clearly be a violation of the First Amendment.

Such a law would fail to survive even a rational basis of judicial review, and there is no objective, documented evidence in support of such a measure.

And the mental illness holding the person actually is the true cause of death. Part of that mental illness is deep unresolved angst, married to a NEED TO BE HEARD!!! With these three, I'd start with unresolved anger from having been molested as boys, which most gay males statistically have been. That would be the place to really get at the roots of this new lavendar momentum. But cutting off the reward is essential, and something that can be done quite quickly. Katie's Law would have targeted the CRIMINALS. The legislation Obama is calling for targets law-abiding citizens!

Ending Sanctuary Cities that give safe haven to criminals who prey on citizens targets CRIMINALS. Obama won't do it.

Closing the allowed loophole that allows violent repeat Felony offender illegals from being released into the public because DHS / ICE refuses (has been ordered not) to take them targets criminals. Ibama won't do it.

Obama demands in-depth background checks on Americans but he is letting 10,000 Syrians into the US, AFTER ISIS said their fighters would infiltrate the refugees coming here, without a back-ground check!
