How to Force Police Accountability

Police do not like being held accountable for their actions. For this reason, in many locals, cops and their unions fight against having to wear body cams. Oftentimes, cops who are required to wear cams, the cameras get turned off just prior to questionable acts (Officer involved in Monday shooting had body cam turned off) They don't like the idea of cops carrying their own malpractice insurance either. Personal responsibility is not something cops and their unions like.

Wrong, corrupt police officers don't want to be held accountable. The other 90-some-percent who do the right thing every day, every year of their career want those bad apples removed because it makes everyone else look bad. People like you paint all cops to be bad, which makes our job more difficult.

A friend of mine was murdered by a police officer.

But not in the role of a police officer.

If I get into a fender bender with a pilot driving to the airport, I can't blame American Airlines.

Here’s How to Force Police Accountability in Your City

Minneapolis – In almost every city across the US, tax dollars are used to cover the damages and settlements from lawsuits filed against their police departments due to officer misconduct. Taxpayers in essence pay out massive amounts in damages for officers not doing their job properly. Additionally, the cost is compounded because taxpayers are forced to continue paying the salaries of these criminal cops.

City officials don’t have the guts to hold officers accountable for their actions. So a new approach is necessary to hold rogue officers responsible for their conduct.

So in the context of this... shouldent we also hold teachers to similar standards. After all they have a far more greater effect over society than police.

We can opt out of having teachers (homeschools) we can't opt out of having cops. Also, cops kill more than 1000 people per year in the U.S Billions have been paid out by tax payers for police wrong doing. Instead of tax payers being punished for coproaches foul acts, it is only fair cops pay for themselves via insurance or bonding.

Very few unqualified teachers end up killing their students.

If they cover for bad cops, then they are also bad cops. Yes, it is that simple!

And yet...the cops stand as one, to fight TOOTH AND NAIL against body cameras.

Which is why it should simply be a Federal mandate, and deactivating them should be a felony, with mandatory prison time.

They do not have a license to kill.

Fighting tooth and nail? Based on what? Here is the FOP (largest police organization) presentation on body cameras. Doesn't look to me like "fighting tooth and nail" - looks like a common sense approach at doing it right:

Most of the time the body cameras vindicate the officer from bullshit claims by people like you.

There was a year long study on body cameras. The result was that use of force incidents were reduced by half. If a cop wore one he was half as likely to get involved in a use of force incident. Complaints were reduced by over 60%. The study authors said this was because the citizens were afraid of being caught on camera.

In North Carolina the videos made the cops look so bad that the State passes a law where the police had no duty to share the video.

New NC body camera law will mean court order required for police video release :: WRAL.com

One of the complaints about body cameras from the FOP is it may violate the rights of the police. And the FOP wants the cop able to view the video before answering questions about any incident. That is really just making sure the lie is believable with the video.

Police Unions like the one in St. Louis claim video is only to protect police.

Cops And Union Rep Lie About What Video Shows Because Judge Never Allowed Recording As Evidence

That attitude is percolating up to legislative levels like in North Carolina.
