If someone wanted to create a "Taliban" style government in this country, how would they go about doing it? Here is a pretty good outline:
1. Create a propaganda network first thing. To do this, you would need to develop the trust of the majority of the American People. Put attractive, personable people in place and spend time pushing patriotism and "love of country". Constantly repeat "values". These people must speak with the expected accents and must have the expected "look". The right coloring, the right "background". Make sure these people spend plenty of time talking about "us" and "love of country". Talk about the "real" Americans. The "founding fathers" and their "intentions". No specifics. This network must run 24/7.
2. Latch on to a few "hot button" cultural issues. Create a "threat" where none exists. Make the "threat" ambiguous. A threat to our "values". To our "families". Nothing specific. This is to create a feeling of unease which later, can be turned into "fear". A very useful tool.
3. Start questioning those currently in government. No outright accusations. Just "suspicions". Question their "loyalties". Their "patriotism". Ask, "are they one of us?"
4. Identify a minority that can't fight back. Demonize this minority. Make them a threat. After some time, pick another minority, then another one. Get the people used to being threatened. Use the same minority all the time and the "threat" will fade. Switching from one minority to another will keep the "base" off balance and fearful.
5. Then there's the educational system. Start questioning complicated subjects, ones that people don't really understand. Make them threatening. Suspicious.
EXAMPLE: Physics - no one really understand physics. Start suggesting that physics will cause some type of harm. Studying physics will turn people away from "values". No specifics. Keep it vague. This will become useful later when you begin demonizing the educated.
