For those that would rather read instead of watch.

A chemistry professor at a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again.

You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat; you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.

Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time.

I got that in an email a long time ago.

What happens if you give the pigs the right to bear arms and opposable thumbs?

you ask them to trade them for free corn....

Strange, that someone with that opinion should find himself in an AMERICAN classroom. So, I guess he's thinks he's a wild pig.

Similar stories have been around for decades. The only difference is the added sentence, which really has nothing to do with the rest of it. Who are "we" in the context of the captured pigs??? Although I agree that government assistance is overboard, what "freedoms" have you lost? I haven't lost any. Ever. None, nada, zip, zilch, zero.

I would say that after a year of the liar Obama, and eight years of the clown show Bush, that even the pigs understand there's a fence coming. Scott Brown proved that.

Troll? What am I "trolling"??? Do you even know what it means?

Some in the thread have proven the point - they are not even aware of the fence anymore.

They simply exist to wait for what is given them.

Great thread by the way - enjoyed it.

The conservative obsession with government handouts is absurd. It is so over emphasized by them, just so that they have something to bitch about....

Though I certainly do believe that free loaders - those who are capable of working - should be dumped from government handouts - the simple fact is tha vast majority of people who recieve government money are not capable of working AND that the amount that they recieve is miniscule. Sure yes, we should hunt out and eliminate fraud too.

However what's more important is the fact that as a percentage of government spending, these program are tiny.

What is not tiny and is destroying this country, is the huge number of people, who thru private 'enterprise', obtain huge amounts of money without making any real contribution to this soceity whatsoever.

The devaluation of labor is the overwhelming economic problem. Nobody wants to do anything that's actually productive in real terms. We've created soceity where productive people are treated economically and socially like dirt. Everyone just wants to make a fortune by doing nothing - they call it investing.

The simple fact is societies can survive very well without lawyers, bankers, executives or accountants, but no society can survive without ditch diggers...the black plague would be back real quick.

So great we can all become bankers. No carpenters, farmers, construction workers, electricians, miners, factory workers or any of the other low lifes that conservatives believe deserve nothing for their labors.

But without the low lifes there'd be no life!

I personally know 5 people on welfare or a similar government program. Of those 5 I would say that 3 of them could get and hold a full time job, and a fourth one could if he were only taught to read first. But instead he gets SSI....... These are the wild pigs. those 4.

America's annual entitlement spending makes up well over half of the entire budget - and at present course, will put the debt at 100% of GDP within 20 years.

And this does not even begin to count the entitlement programs that take place at the state and county levels - billions more wasted each year.

The post regarding the importance of "ditch diggers"...is missing the point.

Why dig a ditch for pay when you can sit on your ass and still get a check?

The entitlement mentality is swamping the nation - and has been for some time. We have managed, due to our great wealth and power, to continue existing despite this mentality by far too many, but now those numbers are finally breaking the bank of even the United States.

The free ride for too many has got to end, or we will all find ourselves fully fenced in...

The right to be rich in America...without government approval.

You are mistaken. You are mixing up the terms "Mandatory Spending" with "Spending for entitlement programs". These are not the same by any means.

Mandatory spending includes payments on the national debt. ~20% of the federal budget.
It also include military and federal workers pensions, salaries for government workers, unemployment payments etc...These are payments that the recipients are 100% entitled to (that's why it's called entitlements). Many of these are programs (like social security or medicare) are programs that people have paid into and/or have earned.

In fact welfare payments take only about 3% of the federal budget -still way too high, in my opinion, but NOT the major national issue that conservatives make such a big deal over.

The answer to:

"Why dig a ditch for pay when you can sit on your ass and still get a check?"

Is simple - because labor has been devalued to a point that people would have to be complete idiots to work for the wages offered, the only realistic choices are: either live in poverty and work your ass off as a defacto slave to the wealthy OR live in poverty but be a social parasite that lives off the taxes of the wealthy.

If there was a substantial difference in the economic staus of honest hard working laborors vs. social parasites, few if any would choose to be parasites.

In a way, the social parasites are just turning the table on the wealthy (who largely deserve it), instead of being slaves to the wealthy, they live off the taxes of the wealthy. I guess it's their simple and well deserved way of saying:

"FUCK YOU TOO!"

Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.

That's what you just did. You cannot possibly believe what you posted.

You won an award. What else do you want?

Excellent analysis. I've been saying for years that as we become more and more a service oriented country, actually producing little or nothing of value, there will come a day when there's nothing left to "service." What then?

Why just complain? Call your local social services department and blow the whistle on the slackers. It's the only way they know who is gaming the system. "Welfare" workers are underpaid and overworked and don't have time to police the system. They rely on YOU for the most part.
