I care very little for New York City and know even less. Especially with their current mayor. But, Iā€™m sure there are those out there who might find this interesting.

This surprises me as Iā€™ve never paid attention before.

But, getting down to Manhattan, thereā€™s some stuff to ponder.

Neighborhoods:

Hellā€™s Kitchen

Harlem

Greenwich Village]

Chelsea

Districts

The Flatiron District

The Meatpacking District

The Garment District

The Heights (arenā€™t there any more as theyā€™ve all been leveled.)

Morningside Heights

Washington Heights

Hamilton Heights

The Bays (there arenā€™t any of those either)

Turtle Bay

Kips Bay

Squares

Times Square

Union Square

Lincoln Square

Herald Square

Madison Square

Washington Square

And finally;

SoHo: SOuth of HOuston Street

NoHo: NOrth of HOuston

Tribeca: the TRIangle BElow CAnal Street

Nolita: NOrth of Little ITAly

So, if you want to take the time to find out where they all came from, go to How the Neighborhoods of Manhattan Got Their Names - Mental Floss - Pocket
