Illinois, New Jersey and Maine are having serious problems they may not recover from for decades and that has happened in one weekend. There are at least six other states that could get hit this year. With exactly the same problem. There are another six and possibly more that will have difficulty rolling over their short-term debts. Contagion can take at least two forms: tax flight and collapse of state finances; both can start the other.
