How many times have you been denied health care?

I asked about being denied health care, not being denied coverage by an insurance agency.

That's kind of a narrow definition given that many times being denied coverage is the same as being denied health care.

Have to aree with Jillian on that one. Assuming you can pay in some way, whether it be cash or via insurance a doctor isn't likely to refuse treating you unless there is an ethics ussue of some type. Kind of a strawman question.

I have never been denied coverage, but given that my medical needs are bit greater than most (ongiong post cancer treatment). It woud be more accurate to say maybe that eventually I have never been denied coverage.

My insurance was a contract between my employer and their insurance company.

Well, it should be a contract between you and the insurance company, group insurance is crazy, your setting yourself up for something bad to happen, like losing your job after you become uninsurable.

So you should get a private plan then? One that allows you to deal directly with the insurance company? So that when you move they can triple your rates or deny you coverage due to pre-existing conditions since private plans do not fall under HIPAA regulations? Yea, that's a great idea. In fact that is why I no longer have insurance.

That's a by product of government intervention on State and Federal levels, allow insurance to be portable. There is no perfect plan unless one is self insured I suppose.

My experience in North Carolina contradicts this presumption.

Between that and her baseless accusation that cancer patients don't get treatment without proof of ability to pay, shows that she has absolutely NFI what she's talking about.....Again.

The fact is that the insurance companies don't want insurance being portable. If they did, the company I was with would have gladly given me a similar policy at a similar price in my new state. In fact, they told me that was what would happen. My bad for not getting it in writing. When I got to my new state, they said I was misinformed.

Like I've said before, it has become obvious to me that these companies are only interested in their bottom lines and will do whatever they can to remove anyone they can who might cost them some money. The only option for those like me is to go self-pay for the treatments I can afford while losing the catastrophic coverage. But even that has become one major headache as these doctors are forcing me through one ring after another just to get to see the specialist I need.

I've called numerous GI's since that is what I need, and they won't see me until I get a referral from a family doctor, even though I was being treated by a GI before moving here.

How many times have you personally been denied health care, or has someone in your immediate family been denied health care?
Certainly, if there is a "Health Care Crisis", there must be millions of people that have been denied health care.
What care was denied to you personally or to your family member?

In many cases being denied care means a person would have the ability to pay for health care out of pocket. NOT A VERY COMMON SITUATION FOR THE MAJORITY OF \amERICANS.

We may be closer in agreement here than you may think, I agree that they don't want it to be portable, the corporate interests doesn't anyway. People like me who sell insurance, who live close to State borders thinks it's ridiculous that it's the way it is. We have over 1200 life insurance companies in this country and hundreds of property and casualty companies, ranging from small burial companies to conglomerates, a free market, those hundreds could compete or be able to anyway, imho.
