Sure they knew; they just didn't have an "all points alert" set up to tell people it was a false alarm. Would YOU have known how to correspond with every cell phone and tv station in Hawaii with one command? Neither did they. Their warning button was automated, obviously. They now have a "false alarm" message ready, too, is what I heard.
