this is a problem in most graveyards.....time after time the flower saddle on my father's grave has been stolen....i credit it to the 'spot and steal' attitude of a lot of people....now we live in a white zone...my sons window has been smashed and climbing ropes stolen....his hiking poles have been stolen in boone...in his unlocked truck....its not just black people...people are stealing anything not nailed down.

i dont think a person who steals from a graveyard is any lower than a theft in general

In the broadest sense an occasionally inordinate punishment is an acceptable price to pay for the positive effect it will have on an entire culture. Do you prefer living in a society where flowers are routinely stolen from graves -- along with all that goes with such licentious standards?

Don't steal tomatoes, or anything else, is not a hard rule to understand or to live with.

As for fathers killing their daughters for bringing dishonor on the family, that level of sexual morality is not compatible with Western culture and would not necessarily impart an effect as important and generally positive as theft deterrence.
