How Long Will Obama Shut Down the Government?

The GOP doesn't have the votes to kill ObamaCare.

So they instead want to shut down the govt.

Obama's Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional. Republicans would be the best group to charge with giving the American people care without bankrupting the government by poorly-thought-out, presented, and crammed down Congress' throat by Nancy (Ka-Ching!) Pelosi.

Clearly the fault lies with the 40 TeaP members in the House, almost all of whom will be primaried out next year because of the disaster that will hit the GOP if the government shuts down.

The far right reactionaries are playing right into Obama's hands.

Oh come on Jake..Reducing the national debt & deficit, reducing the size of government and expecting government to follow the Constitution isn't against the law just yet...sheesh

You would like people to think, act and submit to government oppression without a squeak I guess...

It won't be a repeat of his last term, so Obama will hold on as long as he has to. The Republicans will give in when they lose all their campaign funding, as their Corporate donors aren't going to accept a shut-down.

Sooo... expect politicians to be in the pocket of special interests and corporations or their idiots I guess...It makes you wonder who has the best interest of the American people on their minds anymore.

Republicans can rant on all they like about this and that, but that is all they can do - at the end of the day if the government shuts down private contracts will collapse, servicemen/women will be unpaid, and there would be a decline in gdp for a whole quarter. They are so desperate to de-fund Obamacare and attack welfare, that they have lost sight of reality. The Republican party should realize that there is only so much the middle class can accept, one shutdown is all it would take to cause a massive loss for the Republicans in 2014. The Republicans that show some sanity will win big in 2014, whereas the tea party/kill the government crowd are going to lose to the Democrats.

if Obama shuts down the government i hope that the Republicans don't give in....

we've had shutdowns before.....our country has had many shutdowns in its history.....in 1995 under Clinton we had one for 21 days.....and the world didn't fall apart.....

what will happen if we have a shut down.....?

basically non-essential government workers will be furloughed.....essential ones will still be working....most non-government workers won't even notice...

social security and medicare recipients will still get paid.

some non-essential services will be put on hold...

in fact....a shutdown could help slow the spending and help the debt problem....imagine an almost empty White House....:)

The 1995 shutdown resulted in 800,000 federal workers initially furloughed. Kamarck, who worked in the White House during that shutdown, recalls a very empty White House.

“Non-essential workers are not allowed to work and you would be in violation of the law if you go to work. During the period of 1995-96 shutdown, there were 30 people in the White House complex as opposed to the couple hundred that are normally present.”

Yes, and Newt lost his speakership over that shut down.

yes....and that's the Dimwits problem....either compromise or have a hissy fit and shutdown the government in anger...

Boehener is a dimwit...that is true. You know the GOP is going to get rightly blamed for this stunt holding hostage federal employees, pensioners, those in the care at VA hospitals. Returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are going to be denied care and support because of what the House GOP is doing.

It's real people being affected.

I can't wait for the first commercials showing parapeligic veterans talking about how their not getting their therapy due to the shutdown...it frames who is essential and who is not; doesn't it?

Anyway, you guys have a great shot at taking back the Senate in 2014. That should be your goal. You're really jeopardizing that with this short-sighted stunt.

i don't think so....you can't go wrong when you stand up for your principles....it's about time the Rs did....and this is about real people too....i see this as actually helping the 2014 elections...\
Yes...and in the General elections; 5 of the last 6 have found a plurality of voters disagreeing with or at least not wanting to install those "principles" in the Oval Office.

Again, 2014 is shaping up well for the GOP; anything that destabilizes the status quo jeopardizes the outcome.

Currently we have 22 veterans commiting suicide a day; Suicide Rate Among Vets and Active Duty Military Jumps - Now 22 A Day - Forbes

Shutting down the "non-essential" counseling the veterans returning from battle are receiving is not going to end well from the GOP. Nor should it.
and yes i know there will be commercials put out by liberals full of hyperbole.....so what....we are used to it....

Apparently the electorate is too...

332-206 and you actually lost ground in the Senate 10 months ago. Except instead of talking about 47% and tax returns and five point plans and etc... The Dems are going to put a face on this because they know, without a sliver of reservation that the people of the country are behind them.

When you have a pair of aces as your hole cards; you can push a lot more chips out to the middle of the table. The Dems have aces, you have a 4 and a 9; off suit. Good luck with that hand.

Obama, the Senate majority and minority leaders, and the House majority and minority leaders have let the TeaP members show their idiocy.

BHO will ignore the CR, the Senate will table it, and the House will send a new CR with ACA in it.

The White House supports ObamaCare.

The Senate supports ObamaCare.

Looks like the House is in the minority on this issue.

....but they will shut down the govt. cause they can't get their way.

riiight....Obummer will negotiate with Russians.....but NOT Republicans.....

Nope...no negotiating with terrorists is U.S. policy, after all.

The American people aren’t stupid or easily fooled, they know where the blame belongs:

According to a new CNN/ORC poll, 51 percent of Americans would blame Republicans if there is a shutdown, only 31 percent would blame Obama and another 12 percent would blame both equally. 74 percent of Americans believe a government shutdown that lasts for several weeks would be either a crisis or a major problem.

Similarly, the poll found that if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, 54 percent would blame the GOP while only 25 percent would blame Obama.

GOP Will Be Blamed for Government Shutdown | FDL Action

CNN...

If that were true, Obama would have never been corruptly re-elected. ie (voter fraud, NSA, IRS and the truth about Benghazi as examples at the tip of the iceberg)

Sadly, the Republicans will take the blame on this one

Nobody appreciates all they do for us

So what if they do as long as their standing on principle and what's best for all Americans?

I believe both sides with get the blame and so what...It's a dysfunctional government, no surprise there.

Nah, they're just being a bunch of whiny assholes - much like their base wants them to be - which is why the blame is gonna go mainly to them.

And ya know what's really cool? It won't make a damn bit of difference because the ACA - aka the much-hated-by-idiot-wingnuts-such-as-yourself Obamacare - is gonna go into effect anyway!

Isn't that nice to know? :)

Obama will be responsible for shutting down the government if he won't compromise....

he's having quite a little hissy fit about it...

Obama administration officials repeatedly have said that the president would veto the House bill if sent to him by Congress.

“Congress is not meeting the test of helping middle-class families,” Obama said today at a Ford Motor Co. plant in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. “They’re focused on trying to mess with me.”

Republicans Warn of Shutdown as Confrontation Escalates - Bloomberg

What compromise? Republicans want to defund the entire ACA. They are nuts. I hope the government shuts down over this. You'll be surprised who gets the most support once that happens. House Republicans are playing Russian Roulette, and they're going to end up losing.

Go ahead and shut it down, boys. When the first payperiod hits, and over a million people have no check, they are going to begin to curse you. The when the second pay period hits, and some have no money for mortgages, the banks are going to begin to curse you. And when the third payperiod hits, and the stores begin laying off people because nobody is buying anything, the contractors lay off people because the government is not buying, and the businesses are not investing because of the uncertanty, there will be a swell of anger that you really won't want to see. If the shutdown lasts more than three months, you 'Conservatives' will be less popular than cockroaches, and equated with the same in the voting booths of this nation.

If history has taught us anything, throwing a tantrum and shutting down the government is not a popular way to win friends and influence people

The Republican obsession with bringing down Obamacare is destroying the party

so why are the dems not defunding obamacare which is not essential to government? dems are obsessed with their obamacare....

It is the law of the land.

If Republicans don't like it, find a way to make it better
