There are currently recall petitions underway for 7 of the 14 Dem runaway Senators as well.

At least 5 of those are expected to continue even if the Senators return.

Considering what they are doing, is legal in WIS I don't see a recall drive over it. It may be unethical and petty for them to block Democracy by hiding in another state but apparently it is legal.

instead of pushing for a recall what the Republicans should do is try and change the rules, pass a law that stops abuse of the rules like this. The rules baring a vote right now were put in to make sure the party in power could not pull fast ones and hold votes when the opposition is not present. So change the rules to state that if the opposition is clearly avoiding coming in to stop a vote, that after a certain amount of time, the vote can be held with or without them.

Problem solved. I don't care if it was Republicans hiding in the same way, I would feel the same way I do about it. By Hiding they are blocking democracy in action. They know they can not stop the Bill from passing if they actually allow a vote. That is the subversion of Democracy IMO.

Legal or not, if enough people sign petitions and the officeholder has served at least one year since being elected (or re-elected), there can be a recall.

There are "with cause" recalls, and "without cause" recalls. The petitions are "without cause." No reason is required, only a specified number of signatures (based on the number of voters in the election that put them in office).

To be removed "with cause," certain criteria must be met...for example, if a Senator abandons his office for more than 30 days without cause or justification.

In that case, the Senate can remove the Senator, and call a special election for the voters to elect a replacement.

Kapanke target of recall effort

Sen. Dan Kapanke of La Crosse is one of a dozen Wisconsin senators targeted by recall efforts.

The state Democratic party now has 60 days to collect more than 15,500 signatures in order to recall the second-term Republican.

Kapanke was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.

Earlier this week, two political action committees have launched phone campaigns in five Wisconsin senate districts asking voters if they would support recall efforts against Republicans who support Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill.

The republicans are not going anywhere. The stench of elected officials leaving the state is a far louder, more obscene crime that I do not accept no matter whether I support their position or not, the voters of WI spoke and placed all 3 levers of gov't in Repub hands.

Their leaving is one of THE most despicable acts by a politician not in prison that I can recall, ever. A small minority holding a 6 million-person state hostage to a special interest group fleecing the taxpayers? And these 14 piece of trash deserve to ever sit in elected office again? I don't think so, that's not how a democracy works. These 14 should be forcibly removed from office and new votes called for their districts.
