Hey, maybe this will be the first time in 10 years that the US will be hit by a CAT 3 or stronger.

The longest period of time the US has NOT been hit by a CAT 3 or stronger.

Floating debris and an oil slick...

Debris spotted as crews search for ship lost off Bahamas
Oct 4,`15 -- Rescuers spotted floating debris and an oil sheen Sunday as U.S. crews continued an intensive search off the southeastern Bahamas for a U.S. cargo ship with 33 people on board. The company that owns the ship said a container that appears to belong to the vessel had been found as well.
The ship, the 790-foot El Faro, has not been heard from since it lost power and was taking on water in fierce seas churned up by Hurricane Joaquin. By early Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard said its aircrews spotted "life jackets, life rings, containers and an oil sheen" in the sprawling search area but they have not yet been able to confirm whether the debris and oil is from the El Faro. On Saturday, the Coast Guard said it located an orange life ring from the cargo ship that emitted a distress ping Thursday, but then went silent.

Family, union and company officials wait outside the Seafarer's International Union hall, Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, in Jacksonville, Fla., as an intensive search resumed Sunday in the southeastern Bahamas for a U.S. cargo ship with 33 people on board. The ship has not been heard from since it lost power and was taking on water as it was battered in fierce seas churned up by Hurricane Joaquin.

The missing vessel's owner, TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, said a contracted tugboat and another of its ships had found a container that appears to be from the El Faro. But "there has been no sighting of the El Faro or any life boats," company president Tim Nolan said in a statement. U.S. Navy and Air Force planes and helicopters were helping Coast Guard crews looking for the ship across a broad expanse of the Atlantic Ocean around Crooked Island, which the El Faro was passing as the storm turned into a powerful Category 4 hurricane.

An Air Force base in south Mississippi said two planes with "Hurricane Hunter" air crews that had flown into Hurricane Joaquin were also called on to participate in the search for the cargo ship. Maj. Marnee Lasurdo told the Sun Herald of Biloxi that the two C-130 crews were studying the storm on Thursday when the Coast Guard asked their help. She said the crews searched near the Bahamas on Thursday and Friday for the El Faro. TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico told family members of the crew gathered at a union hall in Jacksonville, Florida not to be discouraged after news of the life ring found Saturday was circulated.

The global temperature rose 0.2°C between the middle 1960s and 1980, yielding a warming of 0.4°C in the past century. This temperature increase is consistent with the calculated effect due to measured increases of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Variations of volcanic aerosols and possibly solar luminosity appear to be primary causes of observed fluctuations about the mean trend of increasing temperature. It is shown that the anthropogenic carbon dioxide warming should emerge from the noise level of natural climate variability by the end of the century, and there is a high probability of warming in the 1980s. Potential effects on climate in the 21st century include the creation of drought-prone regions in North America and central Asia as part of a shifting of climatic zones, erosion of the West Antarctic ice sheet with a consequent worldwide rise in sea level, and opening of the fabled Northwest Passage.

Very accurate prediction, except for the fact that all that has already happened, did not wait for the end of the century.

We have had four years already in which the Northwest Passage has been open.

And look at the drought map for the US.

When the polar caps melt it causes droughts in places that use to have water and floods in places that are normally.

In Michigan our summers aren't as hot some summers and some winters the leke didn't freeze.

So our pollution is just throwing everything off.

Fact is you don't believe all the pollution were putting up is causing it.

Of course things are soooooooo settled they are still guessing, using those rock solid scientific terms like "possibly". None of these so called results are unique in world history with similar occurrences happening long before the industrial revolution. Now they are pushing things out to the end of the century because none of their models allowed for fluctuations. No blizzard of tropical super storms have materialized, no massive outbreaks of super tornadoes, Miami and NY are still above sea level. No if you folks didn't have all the frail excuses why they have been so wrong, you'd have nothing at all. All this hoopla about man being able to alter the course of the worlds climate is so amazingly arrogant to me and it's very clear what the motives are, it's all about power and controlling people, not the climate.

A prediction inside the error bars and consistent with NATURAL VARIATION.. Hansen Et Al has been shown a pile of garbage so many times I have to laugh when you post it up over and over and over again... I love his "potential effects" and pure guessing....

You do realize that 0.2 deg C is less than half of the expected warming of 120ppm of CO2 rise, Don't you?

I guess in old rock's quasi religious frenzy, he can't read....or just won't read what hansen actually said.

hansen said:
Potential effects on climate in the 21st century include the creation of drought-prone regions in North America and central Asia as part of a shifting of climatic zones, erosion of the West Antarctic ice sheet with a consequent worldwide rise in sea level, and opening of the fabled Northwest Passage.

The operative word there from the hansen quote is creation. hansen predicted new drought prone regions in North America and Asia. Alas, there are no new drought prone regions in either North America or Asia....same old places that have always been mostly dry are still mostly dry. Further, those places old rocks likes to wail about aren't even really experiencing drought. If one looks at the natural flora and fauna of the region....they are doing just fine. It is the imported flora and fauna who aren't evolved to live in naturally dry regions who are having difficulties. When the natural flora and fauna start dying off...then you have actual drought in the region.

You flap yap, I present evidence.

What you presented was evidence that hansen failed...he predicted the creation of NEW drought prone regions...none have materialized...and the so called drought in the old drought prone areas isn't really drought...the native flora and fauna are doing just fine...it is the imported flora and fauna...that haven't evolved to live in naturally dry climates that are doing poorly.

Sea level certainly isn't progressing as claimed and I hope you didn't spend money booking a trip through the northwest passage... Hansen has inadvertently proven the null hypothesis.

Gee whiz, SSDD, I had no idea that Northern California, the Willamette Valley, the Oregon and Washington Coast Ranges, and the Olympic Peninsula were drought prone areas. Thanks for bringing us up to date on that information.

Apparently rocks, there are volumes of things you had no idea of. Are you under the impression that since there has been no drought there since 1960 that there has never been drought? Learn something rocks and stop waving your hands hysterically when the sky is, in fact, not falling. Try looking at actual history....try looking at geological history...not just as far back as your local paper goes.

Actual empirical evidence tells us that the Olympic Peninsula experienced severe drought 300- 500 years ago and then again about 250 years ago....want to blame those on CO2 as well. Alas the places you noted are not new drought prone areas...they all have long history of experiencing drought. Like all warmer wacko claims....your latest ones are just more lies.

Here's some discussions of the short-term weather models. For hurricanes, the Euro model kicked butt, while the American model was poor. The Euro model had Joaquin tracking offshore from back on Wednesday, when the NOAA model had it coming ashore. The NOAA model didn't get the track right until Friday.

However, for coastal snowstorms, the opposite held. Last winter, the Euro forecast didn't call them well, while the NOAA model hit the forecasts right on.

Then you "greenies" need to get smart enough to know the diff between oil and electricity use. And smart enough to separate REAL pollution from the CO2 that contributes to Global Warming.

Anything that comes out of your mouth at 4 or 8 times the normal air concentration --- is NOT a pollutant..
