We need to get back to the moon BEFORE China does. We need to show the world that WE are still the most advanced country in the world.

Space exploration out of pure in-your-face nationalism is asking for the eventual militarization of space, IMO. We should go back to the Moon before anybody else not so we can do a neener neener, but because we've been there before and can repeat more easily than others can start from scratch.

That's the point we CAN'T get back despite being there before. That is TOTALLY unaceptable.

i think we should concentrate on the problems we have on the earth moreso than trying to get back to the moon.

This was the attitude taht undercut NASA for better then 30 years.

Space has always been attacked as taking money from social programs.

Of course said programs have always been a horrible waste of money while money spent on Space proved quite valuable, but don't expect it to change soon.

and i dont want it to, and programs that help people move from rat infested slums into modern dwellings are a better way to spend money over expeditions to collect a few rocks from the moon.

Once again, the purpose is not a few rocks from the moon. The purpose is knowledge. Willfull ignorance from the left is just as ugly as willfull ignorance from the right.

Well eventually we will out grow the Earth so if we could teraform Mars we would have another planet to live on. Another good point is that we may find elements that we don't have on the Earth and could be very usefull like Hydrogen 3.

If we out grow earth, we're fucked. Terra forming is nothing more than a dream. No one even knows if it's viable.

We better take care of what we have, because space is nowhere for a human being to be.

A world wide communication network of any kind was just a dream. None of these dreams were realized by men and women who were capable of only seeing what was possible at that time.

Good points. And if the people who developed all of these advances and more had listened to the naysayers, none of these things would exist. And at the rate our technology is advancing, do you (generally) have any idea what we will be capable of in the next 100 years that is only science fiction right now?

I definitely think we should focus more on space exploration. Its through our efforts to get to the moon that we have so many of the products we take for granted today.

The quest for knowledge is always a worthy endevour. We will always have the poor and the homeless with us. but knowledge... we cant always guarentee that.
