The left did not fight for slavery or found the KKK or fight against the Civil Rights movement.
OMG....you are either the worst liar ever or the dumbest person in the U.S. That's exactly what they left did. They did all of those things and more. It is a 100% fact.

The Southern secessionists were not liberals you idiot.

Nope. White, Christian, southerners. Opposition to Civil rights has always primarily come from white, Christian, southerners.

They were people who called THEMSELVES conservatives.

I agree.
True Liberals are for very little government.
The liberals of today are the ones who lie and are in fact socialists and are for even bigger government control.

You're hardly the person who gets to decide what a true liberal is.

Senator Byrd renounced his racist past and deeply regretted his involvement in the KKK. He spoke about this very eloquently many times and explained that he was formed by the society in which he was raised but through the love for his grandson he came to understand how terribly wrong racism and segregation were. And yes, for many years he championed causes that benefited the poor and people of color - and he stood firmly against the illegal invasion of Iraq, speaking prophetically about the foolhardiness of that course of action. He was a great example of redemption.
Robert E Lee educated slaves during a time when it was illegal. He and his wife also freed many slaves. He did not support slavery.

The left sure are hypocritical when it comes to morality and redemption.

Your precious PBS is laughing at you right now, snowflake. As is the rest of the world.

I'm not reading your link because I know it's not going to disprove the indisputable fact that the secessionists were conservative.

Yeah, that evil right-wing PBS! How could anybody trust them?

Liberals must always have a cause to CHAMPION...........It makes them feel morally superior............to safe something even when nobody asked them to save a dang thing....................If it wasn't statues it would be something else...................because they are emotional critters...............

Their rantings only divide a nation and CAUSE MORE RACIAL TENSION..................a tactic that is usually preserved when elections are close by.............Stir up racial hatred for votes................

Face it...............they suck.
Well in this Civil War crap they will find that American's do not support it. So keep it up...it's going to backfire. My best friend ( democrat ) is a historian...worked as curator for Native American artifacts...is PISSED at the destruction of history. First time we have agreed on politics in years.

Thanks loons you brought us together politically. :)

Hahahahaha! NY Carby Queer admits he wants to be willfully ignorant and will refuse to accept the facts. Typical leftist!

Are you saying you can't trust PBS as a source, snowflake?

So wait...he was a grandfather before he figured out that racism is wrong? It took 60 years and a child to make him finally figure it out?

Guess what sweetie...George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin all vehemently opposed slavery 200 years before Senator Byrd supposedly "figured it out" (you progressive minions will believe anything your left-wing masters feed you). And yet your left-wing pals are calling to erase these revered leaders from history.

Why would we want statues of war criminals and traitors? Why does the right worship those who wanted to, and tried to destroy their own country?
Uh....George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin did no such thing. Yet your side of the aisle wants to erase them from history. Oops.

As did Robert E Lee. Go figure.

He was a great example of a racist politician who did what he had to do to get elected. Didn't mean a damn word of it.

This was what...1952?

That's all you have?
What difference does the year make? It was AFTER he left the Klan, meaning he was still a racist. And yeah, it's a lot more than the baseless accusations of racism you have against Trump. And may I remind you that Byrd led the filibuster of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, not 1952. Your hypocrisy is astounding.
He deeply regretted his vote against the Civil Rights Act and his politics evolved dramatically over the decades following, to the point where he had a 100% favorable rating from the NAACP. He is absolutely an example of redemption through words AND deeds, and was unquestionably the most knowledgeable Senator who ever served in terms of Senate rules, protocol and history. He does deserve to be honored - America is all about redemption and 2nd chances.

Blow it out your ass, nobody believes that bullshit, not even you.

It's more a civil war thing . You know, how they betrayed America and tried to destroy it .

They tried to preserve the status quo.

Kind like you morons want to preserve social security.

I'm not sure social security is comparable to slavery.
I'm certain it's not. No ambiguity.

Since you don't think about things, I understand why you are so foolishly certain.

Logically certain. Equating Social Security to slavery is unhinged, incoherent and utterly ridiculous.

Opposition to Civil rights has always been regional.
That may be the dumbest thing I have ever read. Region does not dictate one's ideology. Plenty of northerners wanted to keep slavery (they were left-wing Democrats). Plenty of southerners wanted to end slavery (they were right-wing Republicans).

I don't blame you for being ashamed of your party's ugly history. I would be too. It shows you choose poorly. But own that shit. Don't try to pin it on the innocent. Imagine if 100 years from now, your grandchildren had to listen to how Republicans lead the fight for gay marriage and Democrats vehemently opposed it. You'd be pissed at such an egregious lie. Well, don't do that to others.

I'm not sure social security is comparable to slavery.
Uh....any tax which is not covered more by the U.S. Constitution (and that includes Social Security, welfare, Medicaid, etc.) is pure slavery. My labor is taken against my will and given without my consent to benefit someone else.

With the exception of not working, do you have a choice whether the government takes your money for SS or not?
