That's my point. The left started out as marxists. When that ideology was exposed for the failed and evil ideology that it was, they assumed the term communists. When that was exposed for the failed and evil ideology that it was (which was just marxism by another name), they assumed the term "progressives" in the early 1900's. When that ideology was exposed for the failed and evil ideology that it was (which was just marxism and communism by another name), they assumed the term "liberal" hoping to convince everyone they were just like the founders. Now that everyone has seen their version of liberalism for the failed and evil ideology that it is, they are looking to rebrand once again. Some - such as Hitler Clinton - have gone back to progressive (hoping that society has forgotten about it from 100 years ago...which is largely true thanks to failed left-wing education system). Others, such as Bernie Sanders, are embracing socialism. But the ideology as a whole is looking for a new name.
