How Do You Cook a Baked Potato?

Cook it in the oven at 350.

How long depends on the potato's size and the trpe of potato.

Do not bake red potatoes as they are best boiled.

Bake the potato until you can pinch it with your fingers.

NO foil is really needed.

Scrub potato in cold water.

Poke on both sides a couple of times with a fork.

Dry.

Rub with shortening.

Wrap in tin foil.

Bake at 350 until they're soft, this part you really just have to try it out to see how your oven works. I've baked potatoes for an hour..and sometimes baked them for 20 minutes. It depends on your oven and your potato. A convection oven cooks them quickly.

Microwave...scrub, puncture, and put on high for 9 minutes for a big potato, let it sit a few minutes.

The problem with a microwave is that if you do that, and it's not done, and you do it again, the chances of it being a really good potato start to decrease as the chances that you're going to overcook it (thus turning the ends to cement) increase.

If you want excellent baked spuds, do them in the oven.

And if you have a small dense potato, you never know how it's going to turn out in the microwave.

Made these in the oven @ 350 for 1.5 hours...OMG.
