Yesterday the head of the RNC said women had a right to choose. Today he said homosexuality isn't a choice.

There is a huge swath of Independents out there who do not subscribe to pre-modern Biblical dogma. The Republicans need to re-market themselves to the middle, especially to those with higher education. They've already got the super-rich and the evangelicals, but they need people who have gone past high school science and ethics.
If you were on a Subway platform and you started telling people that you had a relationship with an invisible man in the sky who made the world in 7 days, you would be committed to an institution. The GOP needs to go after the non-creationism crowd, i.e., people who believe in things like carbon dating and post-fifties gender roles, and Steele realizes this.
Part of the success of the GOP is that they have a base of voters who don't understand the oil geopolitics beneath the War on Terrorism. They can pretty much tell these people anything. However, as younger, more educated folks enter the electorate, you need to step-up your game. We're not in Kansas anymore.
I'm trying to move the Republicans from Pat Robertson to the CATO institute. We need to shed the crazies and double down on the Libertarians.
I have an idea, instead of trying to tell the republicans they need to change, TELL THE DEMOCRATS!

The DemoRats don't understand war or money. Our only hope is with the Libertarians. We just need to ditch the Fundies, and we can take the country back. Get the government out of the bedroom and my wallet. We need to go after all those young voters who came on board last election. They could easily become lifelong Democrats and tilt every election, unless the GOP has the courage to dump the crazies.

I want to give woman control over their own bodies. I also think they should be freed from domestic slavery.
In the 1800's, some medical texts claimed that woman were unfit for public life because they were irrational. The theory was that men were more biologically equipped for leadership. I view these medical texts as extension of a violent patriarchal system intent on codifying the privileges white european males.
I think the Bible is one of the most sexists texts ever created, and it should be roundly denounced.
Corinthians 11:5 (Response)
And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head - it is just as though her head were shaved.
Corinthians 14:34-35 (Response)
As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
Ephesians 5:22-24 (Response)
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Timothy 2:11-12 (Response)
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
Please join me in publicly denouncing the deep misogynistic views of the Judeo-Christian Doctrinal system, as laid fourth in the Bible.
born rich said:We are king of the jungle and our economy requires cheap natural resources and cheap labor markets. The point of our military is not to defend against bad people, but to expand/control/protect a global system which benefits us (very often at the expense of others, whose territory has things we need). If you got a problem with that, than drive to your next Greenpeace rally in a hemp-fueled car. Otherwise, stand back and let the real men do what needs to be done. Let the woman and children worry about box cutters and homosexual marriage -- let them hide under their beds. The men have work to do.
your 80% is no longer 80% buddy! And in the group of people who consider themself to believe in God quite a few are not practicing christians. Your number keep getting smaller every year. Most young people today do not go to church and do not want religion apart of their politics. There is a huge swath of Independents out there who do not subscribe to pre-modern Biblical dogma. I don't know who's side your working for, but it's not the republicans.
No, what the republicans need to do is GET BACK to what the party is all about, and STOP trying to redifine it into something it isn't. With 80%+ of the nation polling in as "Christian," I believe your remark about "the invisible man in the sky" is not only crass but arrogantly athiest in nature.
So if you want a party of your peers that assume they're all superior in intelligence and education and too big for God, then form your own party. The republican party doesn't need your arrogance or your Godless candor.

Steele probably understands this. The old party needs a facelift. They need to go after the non-creationism crowd, i.e., people who believe in things like carbon dating and post-fifties gender roles.
Part of the success of the GOP is that they have a base of voters who don't understand the oil geopolitics beneath the War on Terrorism. They have an extremely loyal, low-information, knee-jerk voting bloc who will follow them anywhere -- they just need to talk about evil doers and spreading democracy and the "gay agenda" and the liberal conspiracy and the erosion of traditional values and socialism ... and these voters will kill for them. This has won them many elections, but eventually people get wise to the ruse and that cow runs out of milk.
FYI: Ronald Reagan was not religious. He rarely stepped-foot in a church and he had the country's most liberal abortion policy as governor of California. His wife Nancy was (is) a notorious anti-religious astrology buff (who just came out in favor of Obama's Stem Cell policy). The Evangelical Right doesn't get it: their greatest political hero was just gaming them for votes. The GOP knows they have the southern and heartland neanderthals, but they need to go after the educated Independents. In 2012, voters will be looking to get off Obama big government train-wreck. The GOP just needs to broaden its appeal a tad. Reagan did it...
(follow his lead).
