Doesn't help when all yer eggs are in one basket economically speaking and Venzuela oil production fell sharply when oil prices fell sharply during Oblama and they still hover at a low price compared to earlier years.
Oklahoma was severely affected by it thus causing it's revenue to fall sharply causing Oklahoma to sell off public land, parks and passing legislation forcing every square inch of Okiehoma to be drilled and no town could say "no".

There is no such thing as Utopia. I would never claim that Venezuela was perfect at any point in the near, or distant past.

However, what I can say without any doubt..... the absolute poorest people in Venezuela were doing better prior to Chavez, than since. By any possible measure, they were better off then, than now.

The US experienced the hyperinflation like Venezuela in the later 1970's to the early 1980's because of price controls during Vietnam by Nixon..After the war inflation ensued..No, I may also remind you of the Great Depression in the US where capitalism did fail due to many of the same problems that Venezuela is experiencing.

The great depression was due to government controls.
They imposed the Smoot-Hawley tariff, where import and export markets were decimated, causing systemic problems throughout the rest of the economy.

I'll give you one simple, but clear example.

The Pittsburgh steel industry was wiped out. So lets ask the question why. The answer is rather simple. US tariffs on imported iron ore, make the cost of raw material go up. Meanwhile Canada imposed tariffs on steel from the US, which resulted in demand in the US market for steel to go down. This lowered the price of steel.

So I would assume it doesn't take a Harvard economist, or a video from Milton Friedman, to figure out that if the cost of raw materials goes up, and the value of the produced steel goes down, that the steel company is going to be in trouble.

The great depression was not an example of the failure of capitalism. It was the natural result of bad taxation and anti-market policies.
