House ups fines for indecency on airwaves

OMG, You can't explain to your children what 5 miliseconds of a half covered up boob is? But these same parents are probably the ones that let them watch MTV all day long. Get over the freakin super bowl. I see more exposure walking around the mall then i did from that.

We need to explain why a woman is exposing her breasts during half-time? Like there is some good reason for a strip show in front of a family audience?

In case you didn't know, most good parents try to curb the amount of crap their kids see on the boob tube (appropriate name, huh?) However, it is getting harder and harder all the time and they can't prevent as much as they'd like because TV and other forms of media are being swamped by the incoming sewer pipes.

Why should we conservatives have to put up with your desired filth and sleeze? I think it is you libertarians that need to get over your freakin' so-called "rights" to be indecent. You don't live in a vacuum.

Don't have cable, don't set the kids infront of a tv..get em reading and something most "good" parents have forgoten about, playing outside. The benifits are large, not their asses..... Hey, it is hard, I know, I did it.. not the Government.:)

It IS a lot easier to focus on other things if the brats are tied up in front of the TV

Personal Responsibility... except when it comes to parenting.

Hey, I'm all for personal responsibility. FIRST get the government off our backs regarding

helmet laws
seat belt laws
drinking laws
smoking laws
drug laws
insurance laws
hate speech laws
tons of regulatory law
etc., etc., etc.

THEN I'll concede that government needs to stay out of pornography as well.

At least he admits his argument/opinion is flawed.

It's so easy when they do it themselves.

And so yer saying despite the many other freedoms being taken away from you, what's really important to you is your freedom to :wank: in public?

You lose ..that's not what we're talking about.

Tell me why the Government should show me what YOU want me to see in my home. Why YOU or anyone else should be able to determine what I see in MY home. Why YOU feel the only way to enforce YOUR will on me is at the point of the Government guns. Tell me, tell me, why do you want to control what I do?

Family audience? Most people are in bars, or at home sucking booze back as fast as they can get their hands on it during the Super Bowl.. SB parties, tailgate parties, bar parties, etc.. I'd hardly consider that a "family audience"..

GOOD parents are curbing the amount of crap their kids see on the "boob tube" by not putting them in front of it in the first place. They're actually spending time with their children - teaching them things - doing things with them, both inside, and outside the house. Not dropping them in front of the TV so they can gab on the phone, or whatever.

Why should we conservatives have to put up with your desired filth and sleeze? I think it is you libertarians that need to get over your freakin' so-called "rights" to be indecent. You don't live in a vacuum.

"We conservatives"? This conservative has no problem turning off what I don't want to see, or hear.

Sorry.. But this, I think is yet another load of shit...

Yes, that is exactly what we are talking about. The ultimate freedom, no?

Public airwaves are just that --- PUBLIC. The majority has the right to choose what they want on the public airwaves or not. It should be upon YOU to make the choice to push the button to access porn if you want it, not the other way around, where it's the responsibility of parents to constantly monitor their children trying to protect them from the freely flowing sewer pipes coming into their homes on public airwaves.

You don't come from that same country? Do I agree with gay marriage? Hell, no. What does that have to do with this particular discussion?

Everything and more. Do you know how to cook a frog?

No offense, but you're really starting to sound idiotic.. What's your point? Why is it so damned hard for you to turn the TV off, and do something else with your children? If they're that young, and you feel you just have to "get away", try Barney, Sesame Street, Electric Company, and the like. You both might learn something.

OK, I'll explain. A frog is cooked by slowly increasing the temp of the water so he doesn't jump out and he eventually dies when his body temp gets high enough. Porn is entering our culture the same way...by slowly increasing the temp. As time goes by and standards are lowered and we steep in deeper depravity, we will eventually die as a civilization the same way a frog is cooked.

Children range in age up to 18. You're going to tell me that parents are going to prevent teenagers from watching/listening to porn if it's freely presented on the public airwaves? You know that's not realistic. Children of all ages are quite vulnerable to sexually explicit programming, especially during the vulnerable stage of puberty until they have developed into fully functional and responsible adults. Exposing them to sleeze and filth does nothing to help them - just the opposite - it can harm them in ways that can distort and ruin the rest of their lives.

I don't care if you, as an adult, experience porn on your own by purchasing and pushing a private button to access it separately -- however, I don't like porn pushed in my face anymore than gays being pushed in my face. In fact, gay material used to be considered pornographic.

Well, in your case, the ultimate LACK of freedom.

Wait I've heard of this before... free something. Free store? Free bazaar? Free swap meet? Shit. Someone help me out here...

And I want to get in my car, close my eyes, and mash the gas pedal. Whomever I run over, through, or into isn't my fault because damnit, the government should post a guy in a snow plow ready to drive 100 feet in front of me clearing the way.

There are family-friendly channels that you are more than welcome to watch. But don't go pissing on us because the lineup on those channels is utterly mind-numbing to watch. You have a right to use of the Public airwaves; not domination of them. You don't like your network choices? Then do the American thing and change the hearts and perceptions of the American public through campaign. Lead boycotts. Raise awareness. Persuade others to your opinion through logical, well-reasoned arguments.

But lets be really honest here: the reason you don't do this and instead go crying for government interference is because you know, deep down, you're in the minority. TV is about making money, and if the majority really was disgusted with all the sex, drugs, and whatever else, the ratings would tank. So you can go on and on about poll numbers and majority this and majority that, but at the end of the day its very simple: TV will reflect what the public wants to see, unless of course you puss out and call your big brother in to finish the fight you know you can't win.

Quit acting like a liberal.
