This change has NOTHING do do with the Constitutional requirements of the census, and therefore has NO AFFECT on districting. It merely eliminates questions the government asks which are none of its business.

If you do not answer the census, you are fined. Many of the questions on the census are not a Constitutional requirement. Therefore, those questions should be voluntary.

Obama actually changed the Constitutionally required census from the long form to the short form. It was boiled down to 10 questions for the 2010 census.

However, the intrusive questions which used to be on the long form census were moved to the American Community Survey (ACS).

The ACS is performed every year, and sent out to a statistical sample of Americans. The ACS is accompanied by a letter which states the ACS survey is mandatory.

What the Republican House has just done is vote to eliminate the ACS.

This has no effect on the Constitutional requirement of the census which determines representation and appropriations.


Does the ACS provide useful information to the government? Yes. It also provides useful information to businesses. However, it can and has been used for political purposes. Obama has used it himself for political purposes.

So, basically, that pooch has been screwed. Now it has been taken out back and shot.

The American Community Survey, started by the census bureau in 1996, is over 26 pages long or longer is you have a lot of kids.
Asks way to many personal questions that is none of Feds business, used by congress to write bills for more entitlements.
It is sent to 3 million households and costs 2.4 billion dollars.
When are the Dem's going to start getting serious at cutting government?
They don't seem to get it through their heads, that we can not afford any more government hand outs.
This intrusive and costly survey has to go.
