Polls show the proposal is unpopular with many Americans, and Republican lawmakers are hearing an earful from their constituents.

Hmmmmm....so extending tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the elderly is NOT a good GOP platform to run on? Whoda thunkit?:eusa_eh:

And now that the birfers are going to be shown for the fools they are, what the hell WILL the GOP platform be?

This is where we find out whether the GOP has finally learned to do what's RIGHT or what's POPULAR.

Suffice it to say that their decision on this will probably affect my ability to vote for ANY Republican candidate for the rest of my life.

Gays, Guns, God and Greed; greed is no longer a deadly sin, it has become a vitue in the lexicon of the New Right/the former GOP.

THEY (liberals, commies, socialists, gays, lesbians, trial attorney's, civil servents, progressives, Democrats, non Christians, athiests, agnostics, college professors, teachers) HATE (America, freedom, liberty, The Consitutuion, The Second Amendment, God,);

so, real Americans must

FEAR (gays who want your daughter to marry another female and your son to want to marry another male, THEY who want to take your guns away and make America into a socialist nanny state to create a new world order where we all speak Spanglish and eat with chop sticks and are governed by Sharia Law and the Calaphate).

Seems to cover the Republican agenda. Of course the birthers will now insist President Obama prove he's not a Muslim, and soon Rush Limbaugh and/or Sarah Palin will offer more revised history of the economic crisis of 2008, and opine it was and remains the fault of Presidents Carter, Clinton and Obama.

With the exception of the "God" part (which should be replaced with Traditional Values) that sounds like one hell of a winning formula to me, Wry.

You see, those are the things this country was FOUNDED ON, Wry. Traditional Morals & Values, Gun Ownership, Personal Responsibility, and the Right to make your own FORTUNE in life; or to make nothing out of that life at all. Those are the ideals that this Nation was built upon and unless we get back to them pretty soon, we're going to see this nation fall into the vast abyss of history in the near future.

Of course there is backlash.

No one wants what they hold dear touched.

Cut the other guy but leave me alone. Human nature really.

People just don't look at the big picture. They look at whats starring them in the face, Period.

Everyone should be allowed to draw exactly what they have put into Medicare not what those coming behind have put in.

WOW. Did you practice this?? What a bunch of horseshit.

So what about those of us who don't want to put in or take anything out of Medicare? I would GLADLY sign away my ability to collect ANY Government medical care money in order not to have any taken from my paycheck. Hell, I pretty much already have done that.... my Living Will has a provision stating that ANY medical service which would be paid for by the Government rather than my presonal insurance CANNOT be administered to me; even if it means my death.

This question got skipped right over.....:eusa_eh:

Kill Grandma so that you can give tax cuts to the wealthy

Sound political strategy

Maybe you need to learn to READ a little better, Va..... it was answered in the post directly below the one it was asked in.......

It was definitely Right and in many circles even beyond the wealthy it was also fairly Popular. Either way it was the Right thing to do.

Meidcare is a program that never, ever should have been instituted in this country. It was and we are now stuck with it. Neither political party will get rid of it or SS. We are STUCK.

I agree with you. I would just as soon have the money I have in that program and SS. I can take care of my money a hell of a lot better than those clowns in DC. I can take care of myself and have been doing so for quite some time. I don't NEED the Govts help at all.

No . I'm waiting to see grandma eating cat food and the kids dying in the streets.

Apparantly the seniors in this country don't think they should have to make any cuts or tighten their belts just everyone else. They appear to believe they are a priviliged class.

As for taxes for the wealthy. Well I seem to remember reading that those tax cuts generated a whole lot of revenue. Much more than raising taxes would have generated. Am I wrong??

So, you agree that cutting ack tax on the ones most able to afford taxes in the first place, and then in turn cutting back services for those most in need is a good strategery?

Oh, and I apologize. I somehow "skipped right over" your original response....

Who have thunk it? I mean really......Did the Repugs actually think all those Teabaggers with all those signs, "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY MEDICARE" really meant it?

Ratso Ryan is being booed at his own town halls.

Couldn't happen to nicer, brain dead slag repug.

Yes I do believe that cutting taxes on the people who are the most highly taxed is a good thing. I also believe that increasing taxes on those who pay little to nothing would be a good thing as well.

I'm in favor of a 7-10% Flat Tax on all Primary Income (wages, salary, benefits, and/or other income that form the Primary source of the individual's finances) with NO DEDUCTIONS ALLOWED. That means the guy who makes $15,000,000 (salary, benefits, etc...) a year is going to pay at most $1,500,000 in taxes and the guy making $15,000 a year will actually have to pay up to $1,500 in taxes. Of course the biggest difference between the two will be that the Secondary Income (investments, capital gains, etc....) that the millionaire makes will not be taxed at all while the $15,000 a year employee probably doesn't have any of those.

The Government is not the proper source for "Help" for the needy. That is a situation for the Family, Friends, Community, and Private Charities to deal with and always has been.

If the Parties won't do it, the we The People need to step up and remove the Parties from the equation.

IF "the Family, Friends, Community, and Private Charities to deal with and always has been" actually worked and was more than bumper sticker logic, the government would never have felt the need to get involved in the first place. I live in the real world. How about you?
