This is because oil is produced at about 3% over capacity. Reduce that and prices shoot up. Oil companies keep this fine control so when prices start to fall, they can "hold back" and prices will shoot back up again. Something like Libya is an "unexpected occurrence".

I thought Republicans understood this, after all, they are the "master businessmen", right?

It's why "drill baby drill" doesn't really "work". You can figure out the rest.

Democrats have to work together. Republicans vote in a block.

The Republican base supports their leaders no matter how much they are harmed by those disastrous policies. The apology to BP. Holding the middle class hostage to get tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. Agreeing with the Republican leadership that the middle class should have to pay for the gulf disaster because it was only an "accident". The disaster that is Iraq. Whatever the leadership says, the vast majority agree.

Not so with the extremely diverse Democrats. Even business understands this. When money goes to Democrats from business, it's mostly from the workers of those companies. To the Republicans, it's mostly from the CEOs. More than 90% of the nearly hundred million that came from the Chamber of Commerce went to Republicans. Business knows they can count on the Republican leadership to work against the best interests of their own constituency.

That is very difficult to do in the Democratic Party because of the need for consensus. That's just the way it is. Look at the facts. It can't be denied.
