House Approves Bill to Reclaim AIG Bonuses through New Tax

I saw a vote total on the TV as they said it passed , that image showed that total with a shit load of NV marked.

I thought it meant a whole crap load chose not to vote.

I posted like one second after I saw it.

They must have shown and old clip of the vote.

This action by the congress is totally unconstitutional, it flys in the face of contract law, this will be taken to the courts and congress will lose. All it was was a dog and pony show by our incompetant government.

The government is attempting to distract the American people with this dog and pony show, don't buy into it, they were directly involved in these bonuses and are trying to cover their own tracks.

Dodd has already taken the gaff for this. There's no other asses to cover at this point. Now they're into the punishment phase, and they're punishing as always, the workers! With a new, punitive tax!

Because in their heart of hearts they see taxation as a punishment tool, instead of what it actually is supposed to be -- a revenue generating tool.

You know what would save a lot of time and tax payer money ? For Barney, Chris and the rest of the circle jerk crew to just come out and say "we fucked up" and move on .......

Thank you MM, it sure looks like a case of a simple misunderstanding that was brought about by an attempt to find the correct legal way to write the bill.

It was so immportant that it was in it that it took a full 3 days to find a legal way to do it.

Much ado about nothing.

How about they punish themselves for being complete fucking tools ? .... :eusa_whistle:

It wasn't a misunderstanding, it was an outright lie and attempt to blame-shift while at the same time, feigning outrage.

Stop trying to be an apologist.

so now that congress has passed a law to retroactively tax profits of the rich......

who do you think will be next.....

lots of bonuses were paid out last year to lots of folks.....why stop at last year....

lets go back 10 years and retroactively pass tax laws to punish the rich....

Get a grip guys , Dodd had talked about it before and if this was a legal solution and the Feds asked told him they werent sure that part was legal and it might keep it from passing. He took that as a recomendation to remove it.

None of these people are on record trying to let the idiots keep the money, they were looking for a way to do it legally.

Now they have it.

The bill WOULD have been legal, with a amendment in it that expressly forbade the bonuses! Which is what Dodd initially said he wrote! The employees who were guaranteed those bonuses would then have a civil cause of action against AIG for the contractual obligation broken.

It's the difference between paying the bonuses, which amounts to a dime for every $100 of our money AIG got, or having it be 30-40 cents per hundred, due to AIG defending and/or settling lawsuits. NO laws would have been broken by anyone, had the amendment specifically forbade the bonuses.

While I agree that this is a stupid idea how exactly are they taxing profits? I mean didn't AIG get bailed out because they were losing money not making it?

You're wrong, again. Making great effort to be an apologist for this liar, Dodd. Just stop it. He has admitted he lied. He's taking the gaff for this. Let him do so!

he never said he had nothing to do with it that I saw, he said he was not responsible for its removal as in He did not deside it on his own.

Cut a Little slack in human relations guys its a simple misunderstanding and NO ONE intended to see the bonuses get to these assholes.

What's with all the drama? You guys are cracking me up being all up in arms about this.

It's not like they are doing this to employees of a company that is in the black, following the rules, and not receiving enormous tax payer bailouts. These people are lucky to have jobs!

Same question to you: How exactly is this taxing profits? The company was LOSING money like crazy and needed tax payer money to avoid going under. Where is the "profit" in that?
