House Approves Bill to Lift Drilling Moratorium

But not off the FL coast?

Why exempt FL?

I think the Gov of Fl wanted the exemption.

This should get passed the Senate as well. But I doubt obama will sign it, his ideologies are wrapped up in forcing us to go green. Unless he has learned that unemployment will drop some by allowing private industry to work and hire people.

And the Gov of CA did not want an exemption?

Sheesh Wake up people and quite being played on a string.

About time. Course Obama can still veto. He'd have to explain to the American people why he is preventing us from drilling and producing American jobs when we have high unemployment and high gas prices.

Honestly, in the short term, I don't think we even need to drill to bring prices down. Just the threat that we might start should bring prices down significantly. I could be wrong, but it seems obvious that much of the high prices we are paying are due to the speculative futures market. If the threat is there that we just might start producing more, I think that will drive prices down. Still, I am not ever expecting to see prices drop much below $2.50 if we even get to that level.

Good points. But if you youself were tasked with supplying several refineries with a half-million barrels per day of crude would you bet the future of your company and its shareholders on "threats"? Gasoline will in fact fall below $2/gallon some day. You can bank on it. But exactly when you bank on it is the billion dollar question.

Im not so sure in this environment. Yes the threat of drilling might bring the speculators down. But we also do need to take into account Al Qaeda threats against the oil industry and certain violence in Libya and other oil producing nations currently going on. They may negate the threats. I don't knoww. Everything is to volitile to predict.

The House may have lifted the ban But this Socialist potus will use his Czars to circumvent the will of the people. He is Americas worse enemy in 2012 it is time for him and his Komrads to get the hell out of office and while we are at it kick the U.N. out of America.

It would probably pass in the Senate but, Reid will not allow it to come up for a vote. And, if he was coerced into allowing a vote, Obama would veto it.

I alway wonder where they come up with these job numbers. Invariably 1.2 million potential jobs shrinks to less than half a million in reality. Each qualified worker will fill several of these positions in the years as each well comes on line. Every time they come up with this stuff it sound good but in the stark naked light of reality it is not all that good.

Any oil found and pumped out will have a minimal effect of prices and our consumption. The main problem is refinery capacity in the US. Heck, we even import gasoline because we cannot refine enough oil. I would hate to see a natural or man made disaster take out one or more of our refineries, that would cause a major increase in fuel prices!
