The team consisting of a combination of Indonesian geologists, the U.S., and France managed to find a giant volcano under the waters west of Sumatra. The volcano is 50 km in diameter and height of 4600 meters and located 330 km west of Bengkulu.
Geologists are derived from the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Indonesia Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, CGGVeritas and IPG (Institut de Physique du Globe), Paris.
"The volcano is very big and tall. In Indonesia's land, no mountains as high as Mount Jayawijaya this except in Papua," said Director of Technology Center for Natural Resources Inventory Surachman BPPT Yusuf told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday (28 / 5).
Submarine volcano in the Sunda Trench southwest of Sumatra, 330 km from Bengkulu, at a depth of 5.9 km with a peak at a depth of 1280 meters above sea level. Although the mountain is known to have marked it as a caldera volcano, experts claimed not to know the level of activity of this submarine volcano.
"However submarine volcano is very dangerous if it erupts," he said. A survey using seismic vessel Geowave Champion CGGVeritas sophisticated property that is the first in the world because it uses the longest streamer, 15 km, from which ever undertaken by the seismic survey vessel.
The purpose of this survey is to investigate the geological structure in the (penetration up to 50 km) which includes the Sunda Trench, prism accretion, outer arc highs (outer arc high), and the fore arc basin (fore arc basin) waters of Sumatra.
Since the earthquake and tsunami in late 2004 and major earthquakes other aftershocks, there were many changes in the structure in the region of Sumatra waters that attract many foreign researchers.
A team of experts from Indonesia, the U.S., and France and then worked together to map geological structures deep to better understand the source and mechanism of earthquake triggering the tsunami using seismic image in

if this volcano blow up=the end of asia

Do we have any reason to think that it's active?

If the cadera at Yellowstone lets go its bye bye to most of North America, too.

These massive caderas go off every once in a while
Within the past 17 million years, 142 or more caldera-forming eruptions have occurred from the Yellowstone hotspot .[7]
