Homosexuality as a Density-Dependent Social Response?

I think in the animal density study one would have to remove the homosexual animals and place them with the opposite sex exclusively to find out if there is any merit to the study.

I don't think you'd have to go that far.

But it appears to me that homosexuality is an in-born trait. You're born straight or gay. With a human population, given the time period for one group of adults in a stressed population to conceive children, then the children grow to sexual maturity, and then reproduce less due to homosexuality - it just doesn't seem like a very efficient way to respond to stress on the population.

Many of the animals that have density-dependent behaviors exhibit those behaviors in the same individuals that exhibited other behaviors before the stress on the group.
