Homosexual boy scout is mad because he won't be given eagle badge

He shoukd leave the boy scouts. He doesn't agree with their creed. Why be in it?

WTF happened to the Boy Scouts. When I was a scout there was none of this shit. The actual scout doesn't care or see why thiese things go on. It is the adults who create all of the problems. A young scout don't care if the kid next to him is gay, probably don't even know he's gay. The gay kid probably don't know he's gay yet.

The scouts taught alot of good life lessons. When it came time for my son to join the scouts and he showed no intrest, I didn't even bother to pursue it.

Love how the main stream media lies about WHY he won't be given the badge. Says right there in the article he disagreed with their belief in god which is part of being a scout. Tough shit get over it and stop trying to make a scene because you think you are being discriminated against because of your preference for guys.

Can you please quote the part in the article where it says right there he does not believe in God?

The Scouts' national spokesman, Deron Smith, said late Thursday that Ryan contributed to his situation by disagreeing with the BSA's religious principles.
"Recently, a Scout proactively notified his unit leadership and Eagle Scout Counselor that he does not agree to Scouting's principle of "Duty to God" and does not meet Scouting's membership standard on sexual orientation," Smith wrote in a statement to Yahoo News. "While the BSA did not proactively ask for this information, based on his statements and after discussion with his family he is being informed that he is no longer eligible for membership in Scouting."
Smith said belief in God is the foundation of scouting's strong, continuing commitment to encouraging moral, ethical and spiritual growth. It is the position of the Boy Scouts of America that no one can reach their full potential without belief in a higher power.

If you don't bow down to imaginary idols, you can't join a neo-nazi group of bullies.

I agree with the two posts above - one, that this kid's bully wall is really great and the Boy Scouts could learn a few things from him. And, that Scouts used to be about family and country and learning to be self-sufficient WHILE learning to work together as a group.

While they revile this Scout and refuse to give him the badge her EARNED, they're also getting ready to give up some of the pedophiles they've been hiding.

And yet, the rw's (of course) say this boy isn't christian enough for the Scouts.

What a crock of hypocrisy you rw's really are.

You could learn a few things from this kid too.

Nowhere in your linked article does it say anything about him not believing in God. However, it DOES say that the scoutmaster knew he was gay and said that they'd work around it.

Here's the full text of the link...........................

A longtime Boy Scout claims he's being denied the organization's highest honor because he's gay.

Ryan Andresen, who lives near San Francisco, recently finished an extensive service project needed to earn his Eagle Scout award, but his troop leader refuses to give him the rank.

"He said he can't because Ryan said he is gay," said Karen Andresen, the scout's mother.

Ryan claims the scoutmaster knew about his sexual orientation well before he started the project and paperwork for the honor.

"He had been telling me all along that we'd get by the gay thing," Ryan told Yahoo News. "It was by far the biggest goal of my life. It's totally devastating."

The scoutmaster of Troop 212 in Moraga, Calif., did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment.

I don't see any reason to have to lie. You don't have to believe in a "personified God" as the Christians in order to believe in a "higher power" in life that comes from the same source which Christians call God. Many people believe in Truth and Love, Wisdom and Compassion, Justice and Peace without attributing these to a personified God and Jesus who represents the "embodiment" of the spirit of the laws of life universal to all humanity.

I have a VERY outspoken friend, a longtime activist in the peace and justice community who is openly gay AND atheist. He believes and teaches the "abundance of free grace" as a principle in life. And he does not believe in God as the Christians do, yet he gets along perfectly with Christian activists and has won awards and recognition with the best of them. He has no need to lie about his beliefs, especially since they align in harmony with Christianity.
He just does not express or see things in terms of a "personified" God or Jesus. His faith in forgiveness, love and commitment to "restorative justice" is the same as a Christian believer.
I consider him a neighbor in Christ, though he is of the secular/nontheist/gentile fold.

As long as you respect Universal Truth, Love, and Good Will for all humanity, that is what God ultimately stands for. But lying about it is not respecting truth or yourself equally, so I would not recommend that. The more you love and respect your own views equally without fear, so will other people learn to respect the same. These ways are not in conflict, but just diverse cultures. The universal meaning underneath is the same; and the key factor is "forgiveness" so you don't let fear of differences separate you from others.

Jesus represents that divine forgiveness, central to all humanity, that breaks the cycle of retribution and suffering over all time.
That is why Christians recognize Jesus as supreme in relating to "God"; in secular terms, faith in Jesus is the same process of believing and living by "Restorative Justice" as the only way to "Truth" that sets humanity free and brings lasting peace (or heaven on earth). The more you can understand this connection between Jesus and Justice, the less separated you will feel from Christians who believe in God as personified, because the same truths, expressed through either natural secular laws or scriptural divine laws, call for Justice to be embraced and embodied in man in order to achieve peace and harmony on earth.

Remember: secular gentiles under "natural laws" ARE mentioned in the Bible also, as governed under a "different fold of the same flock." Just because many people are taught wrong to exclude or reject nontheist gentiles doesn't mean that's the real message in Christianity. The real meaning I found in Jesus as universal to all humanity, is the spirit of Truth and Justice fulfills ALL laws or "lords/authorities" which means both the civil/secular/natural laws of the secular gentiles and the sacred scriptures of the Jews.
