Homeless upset over McDonald's dollar menu increase

I know quite a few homeless people. Some are there because they're mentally ill, addicts of some description, quite a lot are very much like the rest of us, they just had a series of bad breaks that were not solely their own fault.... but all of them are human beings whatever the reasons for their predicament. I think if more people bothered to find out what happened to people who become homeless, they wouldn't be quite so quick to judge them harshly.
Good for you in walking the walk, rather than just acting as though paying your taxes and voting for socialist politicians to throw a bunch of OPM around means that you care.

That's the conservative in me. It is my responsibility - and everyone else's - to put back into society... It is not good enough to pay taxes, expect that to solve all our problems and then scream like children that the 'government' is 'responsible'. They are not. We are.

I actually have a very creative idea about how we could save taxes AND start attacking the root problems - at the same time.... but I think both the liberals and the conservatives would lynch me!!!

Considering that State Income taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes have increased throughout the 00s, the itsy bitsy tax credits of $500 have been more than offset by the rest of the tax burden.

It sure as heck isn't back down to 1950s levels.

The spending increases prove this out - taxes are either higher or headed up to cover the massive deficit spending:

Homeless Upset About McDonald's Dollar Menu Increase

CANVAS STAFF REPORTS - Unhappy meals have arrived at a McDonald's in San Francisco.

Homeless people who hang out at the nearby Golden Gate Park used to get 99-cent burgers at the McDonald's located at Haight and Stanyan streets in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.

But the eatery got rid of its Dollar Menu about a month ago. That move, which McDonald's called a simple business decision, means items on the menu are now too expensive for the people who spend much of their day hanging out on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

Items on the Dollar Menu now cost around $1.50.

Those capitalist Nazis!!! I call for a congressional investigation!!!!

So where are they going to eat after the Libs Ban fast food in cali?

lol of course it was the largest because it was preceded by the Largest decrease in US history as well.

Just a little fact you seem to ignore. lol

What right wing policies are you talking about by the way. Bush and the Republicans did not exactly govern as conservatives. They spent like drunken sailors and passed Medicare part b. Hardly bastions of Conservative policy.

Boedicca talks about cutting spending and you make some comment about right wing polices not working. Exactly when did Bush cut spending? Why when we talk about controlling spending to you always resort to what the Republicans did in the past. Which was any but controlling spending.

To funny.

It seems that a lot of people here are overlooking the obvious, or choosing to dance around it.

This McDonalds got rid of the dollar menu specifically to price out the urban survivalist riff-raff. Probably because they believed they were keeping other, higher paying customers away. Not to sound too douchy, but I wouldn't want to go to a McDonalds known for vagrant pan-handlers begging for handouts.

And by doing so, priced their combo meal the same as their dollar meal, thus adding to the obesity of their customers who try to eat sensible portion sizes. The idea of McDonalds pricing out the riff raff is a joke. All they've done is make those down on their luck panhandle harder in front of their establishment. Like it or not, even "riff-raff" needs to eat.

Good business move? I think not. More like a reactionary shot in their own foot.

We've never had real conservative policies - all have been tainted with Big Government compromises.

Reagan, on balance, cut taxes - something an economic illiterate such as you doesn't grok.

I was on the receiving end of that one back in '86. We went from claiming 10 exemptions and breaking even at tax time to zero and writing the IRS a check ever since.

Exactly all these far left loons want Americans to think we game capitalism a chance and it failed. That we gave free markets a chance and they failed. The fact is we have not have true capitalism or Free markets in years. We have not had true Conservative leadership for decades.

Everything we do is tainted by big government programs which Capitalism and free markets are forced to try and sustain, and Conservatives are forced to try and work with.

America prospered before entitlements. There is something about having to make your own way that is a great motivator.

Look what happens when you dare to talk about changing that. Bush talked about privatizing less than 5% of SS and since that day Democrats have lied and spun and claimed all republicans want to Do away with SS completely.

And, therein is the problem..... It is not just about making your own way - it is about helping the other guy along too... Glib 'fix all' phrases are not answers. They are just phrases. I walk the walk. Do you? Because if you do not, then, as far as I am concerned, you are part of the problem.
