CDZ Homeless Problem Part II

In reply to post #71, for the violence of frontier capital, and in some contexts, we doubt that neither cost-of-living adjustments nor housing vouchers may suffice.

American Economic Association
'....The result for that study suggests that the increase in rental prices associated with the allocation of housing vouchers resulted in a large net wealth transfer from unsubsidized, low-income households to private market landlords.....We also found that the largest price increases were for units near the maximum allowable voucher rent in cities with an inelastic housing supply.'

So the voucher holder, because capable, will attempt to move up to the limits of a system that can't keep up with demand, which is the affordable housing gap now standing at about $740 billion. To thwart the predatory bulemia of the market landlord would include such things as rent-to-own, etc..

Basic housing units should be for one adult person or couple. If they continue to camp in unauthorized areas, they should be arrested. Even druggies and the mentally ill don't want to spend their time in jail.

(Families with children already have housing available to them. If the parent(s) are unable or unwilling to utilize housing, the children should be placed in foster care.)

Yes, one adult or couple-sized units make sense, recalling that the gap is the disappearance of SROs (single-rooms occupancies) to make room for "upgrades." That was the approach of the LA musician with the tiny homes complete with a bit of sanitation thrown in. Why did this seem to threaten City Hall? Was it direct competition with their "professional" plan?

It's probably not a good idea to let frontier capitalism off the hook, either. Washington Post brought it up, though it was much too swiftly suppressed in msm:

The right's unwarranted hostility may stem from the nazi strive for pure form. Under less secure circumstances, we know how far that can go if left unchecked.
