September 1, 2004

President Bush told Texas evangelist James Robinson that “I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can’t explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen . . . I know it won’t be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.”

With 49.3% of New York City residents in a recent Zogby poll believing that some people in our government knew of the 911 attack in advance and allowed it to happen, the President as right-wing evangelical prophet is under siege in his Madison Square Garden bunker. Convention watchers should take careful note of the theocratic nationalist rhetoric at the Republican convention this week.

When was the last time a Western nation had a leader so obsessed with God and claiming God was on our side?

If you answered Adolph Hitler and Nazi Germany, you’re correct. Nothing can be more misleading than to categorize Hitler as a barbaric pagan or Godless totalitarian, like Stalin.

While Dubbyuh's rhetoric is comparable to that of Hitler, he is not...quite. He lacks the charisma of a Hitler, but he plays on the same fears that Hitler did, and invokes the same nationalistic/religious shiboleths.

An elderly gentleman I cared for at a dialysis clinic was a member of the Luftwaffe during WWII. His family stood in opposition to Hitler, until his father was killed during the "Night of the Long-knives". He considered the fall of the World Trade Center to be America's burning of the Reichstag. And pointed out that the Congress reacted in the same manner that the German Parliament did...by granting the Administration sweeping and unprecedented powers to fight the "war on terror". In fact, Congress gave Dubbyuh broader and more sweeping power than Germany's legislature gave Hitler. This patient I cared for fears a return to the bad old days, as should we all.

Dubbyuh's no Hitler, but he is a dictator wannabe

President Bush got a pretty healthy bounce, for a man "under siege". I bet Kerry is wondering where he can sign up to be under that kind of siege.

That poll appears to advance a rather bizarre conclusion about the people of NYC. Something stinks here. Got a link?

"Convention watchers should take careful note of the theocratic nationalist rhetoric at the Republican convention this week."

Since the bedrock principle of Christianity is that man's free will is the whole point of the exercise, a Christian theocracy could not exist; it is a contradiction in terms. As for nationalism, many non-Democrat Americans don't consider that a bad word - especially coming from a U.S. President.

"Nothing can be more misleading than to categorize Hitler as a barbaric pagan or Godless totalitarian, like Stalin.'

The extent of Hitler's much-vaunted Christianity amounted to a few years in the Catholic school system, which left him hatefully bitter. He was only too glad to throw around whatever religious talk might have helped him in his rise to power. But, Hitler's only "god" was the state - an Aryan state. The only difference between him and Stalin was that Stalin was the more prodigious murderer.

About
The Free Press

The original Columbus Free Press grew out of the anti-war movement on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in October 1970. Inspired by the activism against the Vietnam War and the senseless killings at Kent State, the underground paper was published for a 25-year tumultuous history (1970-1995). Like other underground alternative publications around the country, the Free Press went through many changes through the years. It served as the voice of the students in the early 70's, reporting on social justice issues such as sexism, racism, peace activism, corporate misdeeds, politics and the counterculture. Constantly struggling to survive on a shoestring budget, it encountered opposition from without and within. Internal ideological struggles were compounded, for example, when police arrested four of the editors in 1971 for "inciting riot."

The Free Press founders grew older, less militant, got jobs but the paper survived. Changing faces on the editorial staff show different politics and policies through the years. The Columbus Institute for Contemporary Journalism 501(c)3 nonprofit organization was founded in 1986 as the sponsor of the Free Press newspaper.

Finally, after floundering through the Reagan-Bush '80's and hampered by a lack of an activist movement in the city, the Free Press faced so much competition in the "alternative" newspaper marketplace in Columbus that revenues dried up. It published its 25th Anniversary issue in October 1995, only with dollars donated from then-Columbus Guardian publisher Ron Williams; and ceased publication temporarily. The Free Press was resurrected as a website in early 1996 courtesy of longtime volunteer and activist Tim Wagner. The website developed during the next two years and the printed publication emerged as a quarterly journal in the Winter of 1998. A new Board of Directors formed and gradually the Free Press is back up and running in Central Ohio.

The Free Press now honors community activists annually with a "Libby" Award for Community Activism, named for a former Free Press editor, Libby Gregory, who lost her life in 1991 in an airplane accident. In 1998, a Selma Walker Award for lifetime achievement in Human Rights activism was added in honor of Selma Walker, the founder of the local Native American Indian Center.

The CICJ is a member of Community Shares of Mid Ohio, earning a small amount of funds through workplace campaigns. Look for the Free Press/Democratic Socialists of Central Ohio wine booth at the Community Festival each year during the last weekend in June. The Free Press is dependent on subscriptions, donations and fund-raising events to stay alive.

Believing that there's still a place for community-based journalism, the struggle moves forward, awaiting the rise of the next left mass movement that's willing to speak truth to power.

I might be wrong, but it seems to me that I once lined my parrot's cage with a copy of the Columbus Free Press. He refused to use it, saying, "Why be redundant?"

Bully's source is Bob Fitzrakis of the Freepress. Fitzrakis is a sensationalist muckracker who has little regard for the facts and no regard whatever for the truth - hmmm pretty much the same as Bully. Here's the link to that sewage disposal plant masquerading as a "news" site:

:puke3:
http://www.freepress.org/columns/display/3/2004/942

And here are the titles of some of Fitzrakis' other "expose's"

"Random notes from the heartland – Bush in Columbus"
September 1, 2004

"The Columbus sniper, video games and the new Manchurian Candidates*"
August 29, 2004

"Rods from Gods: The insanity of Star Wars, the sequel"
June 24, 2004

"Ronald Reagan: a legacy of crack and cheese"
June 16, 2004

"Torture and abuse: A pattern and practice of the U.S. military"
May 4, 2004

"Again, why George W. Bush must be tried as a war criminal"
April 20, 2004

"On Bush, drugs and hypocrisy "
April 15, 2004

"Diebold, electronic voting and the vast right-wing conspiracy"
February 24, 2004

"Behind every Bush there's a scandal"
February 21, 2004

I was going to pick apart the piece Bully posted, but after seeing where he got it, I figured "what's the point?" Either Bully is a wild-eyed fanatic who shared residence in Ted Kaczynski's shack or he trolls the net and dredges up this crap for no purpose other than to stir things up.

Apparently Bully feels at home at the Freepress because he has found a kindred spirit with the same distorted vision and questionable journalistic ethics.

But I am going to indulge myself just a bit and answer one question posed by the muckracker. Fitzrakis screeches "When was the last time a western nation was so obsessed with God and claiming God was on our side?" He then incorrectly answers his own question by claiming that person was Hitler.

And the dipshit can't even get that right. It wasn't Hitler. It was Ronald Reagan.

Four more years, Bully. Start chanting that every day so your synapses won't burn out this November.

Laughing my butt off so much, I need glue to put it back on, now my pants won't fit until it dries and I can't take a dump, either.

Gotta do some stuff around the house, now. Otherwise, I would pontificate (and ponitificating is what we dead Communists do the best!)

Why is it scummy liberals are so afraid of a Christian president who actually is a God-fearing man? (totally unlike Hitler)

Could it just be that they are such vermin that the light of Christianity scares them to death? If honest, decent, God-fearing men became the norm again in politics as it was at the start of our country, they would have to run and hide back under the rocks from which they came.

If Bush's governmant knew about it ,then so did your wonderful Clinton's government. I don't think that either believed it would happen . This article is nothing more than some extremist in the media that wants to panic everyone because no one pays attention otherwise. Also,NY is not the only place in the U.S. Their are opinions outside of N.Y. you know. :bang3:

No offense taken, but if I didn't say it (in jest) some other NY'er would have.

We have a reputation to defend you know.................. :funnyface

First of all Hitler was definitely not a Christian by any stretch of the imagination. He and his fellow Nazis considered Christ to be a Jewish bastard and Christianity was nothing more than Judaism in a different form. True, in his speeches, he often invoked the name of God and said that he was doing the Lord's work. But those were empty words, lies to get people to do his will. It was his propaganda minister, Goebbels who said that a lie reapeated often enough is accepted as being truth by the masses. That is exactly what Hitler did well. He was a master liar and led millions astray.

To compare Bush with Hitler is silly....

1. If Hitler were criticized in the press or by anyone, his Gestapo would have hauled the offenders off to a concentration camp. Micheal Moore, most of Hollywood and the Democrats would now be guests of the state. Bush has done nothing to silence his detractors.

2. Hitler targetted Jews as a threat to the State. Bush could have done the same thing with Moslems, blaming them for all the problems that we have, but hasn't

3. Hitler considered the old, infirm, disabled to be a drag on the State and sought to have many eliminated or sterilized. Bush on the other hand signed a 15 Billion dollar AIDS package into law.

By the way, the Gestapo was started by Hitler's close friend Ernest Roehm, a notorious homosexual. Hitler knew of Ernest Roehm's sexual orientation and had no problems with it, so long as Ernest Roehm was useful to him. The Gestapo played a big part in the "final solution" of the Jews, the Gypsies and other "undesireables". The fact is that less than 10,000 homosexuals were sent to concentration camps (most likely for reasons other than their orientation). More than 20 million people were killed by the Nazis in the death camps. If Hitler really wanted to hunt out and exterminate homosexuals, (which numbered hundreds of thousands or millions) he would have killed many, many more people. The pink triangle that many gays now use to bring attention to the so called suffering of gays under the Nazis is an insult to those people (especially the Jews) who were the real target of Nazi genocide.

tighten the tinfoil hats! Protect your brains from GOP mind control waves!!

Libbies are so funny when they do this. No wonder Bush is leading. There was Bush's speach about all the positive things he's done / will do; and right after that was John "when I was in Vietnam" Kerry sounding like a petty loser by accusing people of questioning his patriotism. Normal Americans don't like seeing their president compared to Hitler by fringe-lefties such as yourself. So keep up that h8 fest! :bye1:

I don't believe I've mentioned anything about conspiracies. I leave that to the Rush Limbaugh crowd.

As for Dubbyuh and Hitler, well, there's enough congruency there to give on the willies.

You (rather, your source) missed motive. What were the motives of the people to follow Hitler and what are the motives of people to follow Bush? What are the similarities and differences between the two countries during the time of your 'comparison'?

I would bet that world leaders all have similar psyches. Similar personalities gravitate to similar jobs (and other behaviors), that is the foundation of MAPP testing and psychological profiling. Why don't you compare Hitler to Putin? Or to Sharon? Or to any other world leader? You're certain to find similarities.

That being the case, other environmental differences (and they be broad, lad) must account for the major differences of leadership.

What you're comparing then, is a post WWI, economically and socially depressed, hopeless, opressed and shattered nation (Germany, circa 1939) to the global modern superpower.

If you see congruency there, might I suggest that you renew your anti-psychotic drug prescription post haste?

Interesting that there is such a thing as a newspaper (using the term VERY loosely) based on activism for activism sake. Just goes to show that some folks have way too much time on their hands.
