Hitchens puts the left in their place

Was his rambling incoherent speech an argument? What is there to respond to? The guy isn't fighting in the war. All this guy does is write books for the average know-it-all jack-ass.

If you had ANY intellectual capacity, you'd realize that he presented FACTS and a valid POV.

So, which of his books have you read?

(NOT holding my breath. I know someone else told you to think that, and your come-back will be that it's just ALL so beneath you to waste the time.)

Hey! I've got an idea! How's about you moving your sorry ass off to a muslim country, and spewing your drivel to THEM? I mean, they wouldn't harm YOU, just 'cuz you refuse to fall into lockstep with their agenda...

I take it you agree with Hitchens's anti-theism as presented in God Is Not Great? I thought you were a Christian of some sort...

Hipeter fails to see this since that's precisely his style of argument. At least, unlike Hipeter, Hitchens has the balls to criticize Zionism as well.

I'd say that God is Not Great is more anti-religion than anti-theism. When he addresses faith itself, the fundamental point he makes about faith in some sort of higher being is that that is based on the argument of design; thus concluding that faith in a higher being is not logical. And, that seems spot on as faith is a set of ideas that is not based on proof (beliefs).

Being a Christian has NEVER precluded the study of Both Sides of the Coin, as it were,

and when you HEAR the truth,

REGARDLESS of your basic beliefs,

you know it for what it is: TRUTH.

Christianity is something of a mystery, in that we are to allow and, indeed, cherish, ALL peoples. We're instructed to look at everything, and filter it through the lens of our beliefs.

I also don't "hate" gay folks, nor murderers, nor liars, nor any (by my standards) of supposed "bad folks,"

UNLESS they demand that I throw aside my loving God to behave and act as they do.

I thought I remembered him describing himself as an "anti-theist." Oh well. He's pretty asinine, but less so in print than in speech.

Why is the questioner a lefty - simply because the OP fit the biased narrow minded view of the poster similar to Hitchen's narrow minded mean spirited reply.

If there were a reward for self righteous hooey that piece would win it. Generally I have respect for Hitchens as he is usually educated, intelligent, and a bit logical, that was obnoxious and idiotic on a number of levels. The questioner raised a question that has behind it a real history as even Hitchens admitted in his reply, but he couldn't stop there, he has to then castigate the loonies who happen to be Muslim for evil actions. People don't wake up one day terrorists, there is a process and in a many cases a genuine grievance. Hitchens even mentioned that aspect. Are crazies not evident anywhere fundamentalism lives and grows and takes over the person? The termite metaphor was stupid as well.

"Terrorism require alienated individuals, a complicit community, and a legitimizing ideology motivated by a desire for revenge, renown, and reaction from the enemy." Louise Richardson

"We first kill people with our minds, before we kill them with weapons. Whatever the conflict, the enemy is always the destroyer. We're on God's side; they're barbaric. We're good, they're evil. War gives us a feeling of moral clarity that we lack at other times." Sam Keen

I think he has described himself as such, but the book was more focused on criticiziing religion.

The questioner is a lefty because the questioner is clearly a bleeding heart appeasement freak.

I criticize both, or I wouldn't be calling for a secular Israel, as opposed to a Hamas genocide of the Jews, which is the Jew hating left's (and every radical Muslim's) wet dream.

Plus I would never use the word 'Zionism' as it's recently being used a screen by the left, in their attempt to avoid the race card for saying the Jewish people need to be destroyed (or exterminated), which of course would be the end result of destroying the Israeli state*. :eusa_whistle:

*Which would also result in a brutal Islamic theocracy of Palestine, so for all your bitching about the 'evil' Israel you are really just desiring to put in place something 1000x worse.

If I wanted to be talked down to reading a book full of shit I'd read Earth in the Balance by Al Gore.

So, which of his books have you read?

None of them. Just like the books by Mike Huckabee, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Ed Schultz, or Noam Chomsky I'd rather grab a fork out of the drawer and shove it through my eye than read that drivel.

(NOT holding my breath. I know someone else told you to think that, and your come-back will be that it's just ALL so beneath you to waste the time.)

It is a waste of time, but it's not beneath me. I post here...

I live in one. Sharia Law is here.

I mean, they wouldn't harm YOU, just 'cuz you refuse to fall into lockstep with their agenda...

Please go drop a bomb on a pregnant Muslim woman ripping the fetus from her body killing both of them because if you don't we all die. Seriously, I'm the insane one here? War is Peace, we get it...:cuckoo:

All of a sudden, Conservatives like Hitchens because he attacked Islam. He's a socialist, you know.
Conservatives like him because of his views on foreign policy and politics, he may be a 'socialist' but certainly not a 'socialist' calling for the destruction of Israel, the death of free speech and of all western civilization.
