Andrea Mitchell: Hillary Wants VP Slot

Hillary-friendly NBC newswoman Andrea Mitchell said Sunday that the former first lady is indeed interested in teaming up with Sen. John Kerry as his vice presidential running mate.

Dismissing the longshot prospect that Sen. John McCain might switch parties to run with Kerry, Mitchell told NBC's "Chris Matthews Show," "I think there's another long ball - Hillary."

"According to Republicans and Democrats on the Hill in the cloakrooms, she is interested in running," Mitchell insisted.

She suggested that Sen. Clinton is "doing what is necessary" right now to show pro forma support for Kerry's presidential bid, but would take a much higher profile if she knew such an invitation was in the offing.

That's a shocker.

Well, it should be a shocker. According to all you right wing, Rush Lumbaugh fanatics, Bill and Hillary are sabotaging the Democratic Presidential bid, so that she can run for President in 2004.

Lone I think you mean 2008.

If they really want to nail the coffin shut they should put Hillary on as VP, you'd be surprised to see Republicans come out of the woodwork to vote against that ticket.

One thought though, in 2008 is it possible that there could be a Clinton-Clinton ticket? Can Bubba serve as VP too?

What choice does Hillary have at this point? If JK does win the presidency and john doe is the vp than Joe Doe will run presidency in 8 years (assuming) and more than likely, if Americans were to be satisfied with Jk than they would vote for his vp as the new president. This would push Hillarys chances back yet another 8 years.
Meanwhile she has to worry about re-election for her senate seat. What if Guilliani were to challenge her seat? She would have to kiss her senate seat goodbye and all chances of anything to further her political career.
This is her shot at what she wants. No she isn't going after what she wants, she wants to go for the Presidency..but the timing would never work for her and it is too much of a gamble for her to wait untill the next term.
In a sense it is a gamble at that...should GW win re-election than she would go after the presidency in four years-but that is touchy too....she would have failed as a running mate and not likely to make it alone.
So this is it for her. She is looking at Jk's popularity right now through the polls and taking a chance that he will beat GW...otherwise she would not waste her time. But what do polls know anyway?

I don't trust her. I believe she is more likely to torpedo Kerry's chances for victory in November. Even if she were to join Kerry she would be no more than Algore was to Clinton. Her vp status would depend on how Kerry performed his job as President. Because of Kerry's re-election in 2008, she still would not be able to run intil 2012 and that may make her too old. Her best chance is in 2008.

Actually its not really a shocker at all. Rush and all of them have been discussing this exact scenario for months.

Hillary gets the VP slot with Kerry. If Kerry loses, big deal. It will have immunized Hillary for 08 or so they say. If he wins, Kerry will not likely survive his first term.

But the chances are Hillary will draw the negative vote against Kerry. Which means putting Hillary as the VP candidate its the best way to ensure Kerry's sabatoge, not that he really needs more problems.

Not only that, but it keeps the control of the DNC in Clintons hands.
