Higher Rate of Autism for Those Who Don’t Vaccinate

Sorry anti-vaxxers. Your kids have a better chance of getting autism if they don’t vaccinate than if they do.

After two studies reporting a possible link between vaccines and autism, researchers have set out to examine whether much larger studies could replicate the findings of the first studies.

These much larger studies, covering thousands of times more children than the first studies, were much better designed and much more "powered" to detect any differences between vaccines and autism.

The balance of evidence strongly indicate that there is no link between vaccines and autism. In fact, recent research has shown a trend towards a lower autism rate with vaccinations.

This might have to do with education level and autism, and also paternal age and autism. We know that highly educated parents tend to have autism at higher rates than not, and advanced paternal age. Anecdotally, these seem to be the parents who reject vaccines.

The most vocal anti-vaxxers seem to be far-right conspiracy-minded conservatives with lower education levels who have a knee-jerk reaction against government, and far-left conspiracy-minded liberals with higher education levels who have a knee-jerk reaction against corporations.

I have stated before that I'm not in favor of all vaccines just because. I'm skeptical of the flu vaccine for instance as well as a few others. But the majors--especially those that have been around for a long time and that have eradicated or all but eradicated serious diseases--seem solid to me.

Are anti-vaxxers even real or is it just a made up thing for smug people to complain about?
The measles outbreaks we've had in areas with low vaccination rates are real enough. What do you mean?

I just don't see a lot of militant anti-vaxxers around.

Complaining about the elusive anti-vaxxer on social media is like every insufferably smug political centrist's favorite pastime.
They are real and they appear to be growing. In the county in Washington state where the measles outbreak was a month or two ago, less than 70% were immunized. Which, of course, is why there was an outbreak.

Do we know those people were "anti-vaxxers" or just lazy, maybe uninformed?

Possibly even migrants..
It's possible some of them are too lazy to take their kids to the doctor. Uninformed? Not possible if they take the kid to the doctor at all.

Actually, they did a study (in California) where they found the anti-vaxxers were well educated, green party types. Helicopter moms afraid of giving their kids nasty chemicals. Pass the kale.

Chemicals might sometimes be nasty, yep

Measles is nastier, mommies. So is small pox, polio and etc

I think (I hope) that a larger percentage of kids have escaped that overparenting than you believe.

If they are too stupid to do it on their own, YES, it is not an option to spread communicable diseases that can have severe outcomes.

The government forces us to do many things in the name of public safety. It forces us to drive on the right side of the road. It forces us to pay taxes to fund the police and military. It forces airplanes to adhere to mechanical standards. We don’t live in anarchy.

You will do well in our Orwellian future.

The thing you silly Statists never learn even though it is abundantly obvious, government can never be trusted to protect the public. Fact is government today protects big corporations and the extreme wealthy, to the detriment of the American public.

What has happened to my country? It seems to be full of totalitarians gladly accepting government lies. WTF!

Right. Because every single thing the government has ever done is bad and evil.

Hilarious extremism, Dude!

Now go drive on the left hand side of the road. Don’t let Big Gubmint tell you what to do!
