sad thing is the schools feel compelled to push sports because if they don't, competing schools will. I've always been averse to college sports after constantly witnessing student athletes who couldn't even speak English at an elementary level. :eusa_eh:
Perot was right when he demanded that Texas school athletes require higher min. GPA's in order for students to be able to play. Seeing that football is a religion :eusa_angel: in Texas, he was decried by the football- worshiping dopes.
The incidents in Penn. bring this dilemma to the forefront. With students falling further & further behind other countries in science & math, sports should be relegated to the area which they belong, 'extracurricular'

They need to take the $ out of the equation for starters.

Didn't go there because of their educational program :eusa_eh: :eusa_whistle: :clap2:

Penn State actually has one of the best academic records when it comes to athletes. This is contributing to people's shock over this, as the program is known as squeaky clean when it comes to NCAA rules, and actually trying to eductate the people in thier sports programs.

While a jock/locker room mentality may have contributed to the cover up, college athletics did not cause Sandusky to diddle little kids. Correlating a desire to end college athletics, as currently set up, with this scandal is poor form, in my opinion.

"poor form" to remove $ from college athletics? :eusa_eh: The reason these people were given a pass in the first place is because of the inordinate amt. of $ involved in college sports

Its actually because the people who covered it up cared more about money, power and their reputation. It's not the moneys fault. Plenty of people do the right thing even when money is involved.

Riiight  They didn't weigh the millions of $ that are associated w/ athletics, /ESPECIALLY at Penn, to come to their decision to brush it under the rug :eusa_eh:

I think there was a time when college football was considered a sport but those days are long gone. College football has become a high octaine sports betting multi million dollar business enterprise. The kids who were (allegedly) sexually molested by the Penn State ass't coach for fifteen years or more were just throw-away numbers balanced against the power of big-ten college football elitists. Paterno and the university president should be indicted for their role in sanctioning the sexual assault of children.

11/11/11 not a lucky day for Paterno...
    :eusa_eh:
Senators rescind Joe Paterno's nomination for Medal of Freedom
11/11/11 : Just two months ago, Pennsylvania’s two senators wrote to the White House and nominated Joe Paterno for the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor. Today, they’re taking it back.
