Rail service is primarily freight service because it is slow (to avoid hitting too many people and other critters) but very cheap. If with a million square miles of flat, low population land to build relatively cheap high speed freight line on why are the plans for high speed rail designed for expensive densely populated corridors? What ever happened to creep, crawl, walk and then run? Once freight service is mastered on the cheap then the network can be extended and passenger service added. I think we are going about this the wrong way around what do you say?
