High School Reunions!

God I hated high school.
I did too, with a passion.

I've never been to a reunion and i will never go.
I've been to two reunions, because although I hated the school, I did have a few pretty good friends, and it was fun to get together and have a few and reminisce. It was disturbing though how the hottest girl in our class blew up into a fat, old, pie faced hag.

I went to my 30 yr reuniion some time ago.
It was worthwhile and interesting.
All the "look how well I did" was amusing.

had a good time though.

I've gone to all mine and had a blast at all of them. But I loved high school and miss my old home town. Most people who go enjoy themselves in my opinion. The funny thing is that at the last one, hardly anyone brought their spouses. I sent mine to bed at the hotel at 11 and partied til three. Won't make that mistake again next time. Lol

We don't really go in for this sort of thing in the U.K. Well, not for secondary (high) school anyway.

Though out of all the Americans I've spoken to who have attended a high school reunion, most of them confirmed my suspicions. It's an insincere event routinely attended by people who spend the whole time probing their former classmates to evaluate how well they've done in life so as to compare their own successes. Which I suppose, given the circumstances, to an extent is quite natural really.

Personally, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

You're a mere child, Masquerade! 25th year class reunion!? I've been to a couple of reunions - I'm two years away from my 50th year class reunion. Don't know if I'll attend that one - too far in the future to worry about it.

My 45th was ok - saw a couple people I was hoping to see - "The Daddy" for one! Got his girlfriend pregnant and did the right thing by her. He really was a good kid - lived on the street behind me. Really funny to know that one of my co-workers was married to one of my high school friends (who did remember me). One girl who was from a fairly well-to-do family is now living in Taos, NM or some such place doing basket weaving or something. The girls had done a great job of "retaining their youth," but the guys were almost unrecognizable - and I was shocked at how short everybody was! I recognized a good number of people - and practically nobody remembered me. No surprise there - I was in such bad shape in high school that I was basically a wallflower - always staying in the shadows looking out.

The vast majority of my classmates were very successful which came as no surprise - almost everybody in my high school was college bound as an expectation. One girl who became an MD (dermatologist) came up to me and told me I had absolutely beautiful skin. I sort of had to stifle myself ... she had gorgeous eyelashes and one day in school I had asked her how she kept them curled. She looked at me and said she rubbed banana peels on them. I was so dumb and naive - I believed her!

On my 20th High School reunion I fucked the hottest cheer leader in the school. She was 250 pounds and on top and now I am in a wheel chair.

Do not fantasy and reunion, it kills

I went to a high school in a city where I haven't lived since I graduated. Throughout college, I kept in contact with two folks from high school because they went to that same university. One was even a roommate freshman year. So, I ended up losing having much in common with most of my high school mates. Many of them were able to maintain relationships through their undergrad years because they still summered in the area. I was elsewhere.

One does a lot of growing up and changing from 18 to 22 years of age.

Although I loved high school, it has always been a time that is long gone for me. So, I have never been to a reunion. Probably won't ever go. The travel and time investment is not worth it to me.

The one classmate ( friend ) I kept in touch with all these years, has attended every reunion since graduation. Each year trying to convince me to go because she always has a good time. Then again, she hasn't tried to hide away from it all like I have. If they can't find me, they can't invite me!

Sounds to me like the competitive, free market, capitalist nature of Americans as opposed to the socialist, spread the wealth around, everyone's equal nature of the E.U..

We like to compete, we like to excel, and we like to win. I guess you wouldn't want anything to do with that either.

The political "bend and stretch" aside, I have found that the tenth, and maybe even the fifteenth year reunions have some of that 'competitive' spirit. By the time you're twenty or thirty or, in my case, thirty five years removed from high school, that competition has past along with immaturity. The fact of the matter is, once you're old enough to realize how utterly unimportant that 'competition' is, you've also come to realize how very important real life has become.
