Lebanon announces unity government with Hezbollah members - Times Online

Five months after elections that were touted as a rare example of Middle Eastern democracy, Lebanese politicians have announced a national unity Cabinet with a strong opposition presence led by Hezbollah.

The Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, said on Monday: “Finally, the national unity Cabinet is born.” In June he led a pro-Western coalition to election victory, but the parties have since been locked in stalemate over forming a government.

The compromise line-up offers an effective power of veto to the opposition, which is led by the militant Islamist group Hezbollah — considered a terrorist organisation by countries including the US.

The presence of ten opposition ministers in a 30-strong Cabinet has raised concerns in Israel about the growing influence of Hezbollah. There was speculation that the Iranian-backed party could affect Lebanese policy if talks between Tehran and the West broke down

‘Prepare to Invade Israel,’ Hezbollah Leader Tells Followers
Thursday, February 17, 2011 – Hezbollah's leader told his Shiite guerrilla group Wednesday to be prepared to invade northern Israel, a day after Israel's defense minister warned that the quiet along the tense border could erupt into violence.
The comments by the two sides illustrate the fragile situation along the frontier since they Israel and Hezbollah fought a bitter, six-week war in the summer of 2006. The war ended in a U.N.-brokered truce but officials on both sides of the border believe it is only a matter of time before hostilities resume.

"I tell the holy warriors of the Islamic Resistance to be ready for a day when, if war is imposed on us, your command might ask you to control the Galilee area," Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech Wednesday. The Galilee refers to land in northern Israel.

On Tuesday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak toured the Israeli military's northern command and told soldiers there that the quiet along the frontier might not last. "This is not forever and it could under certain conditions deteriorate, and then you will have to be called on again, with everything you learned in training," he said. "Today the units are better trained and more prepared but there is always more to be done and you need to be ready for every test."

Hezbollah and Israel fought a 34-day war in 2006 that left 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israelis dead.

Hezbollah Opens Direct Weapons Route To Lebanon...
:eusa_eh:
Syrian-Hizballah’s capture of Qusayr opens direct weapons route to Lebanon
May 19, 2013, Shortly after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu pledged Sunday, May 19, to maintain Israeli operations in Syria against the passage of advanced Iranian weapons to the Lebanese Hizballah, Syrian troops and their Hizballah comrades stormed Al-Qasayr, the northwestern town which commands the high road from Syrian Homs to Lebanon’s Hermel Mountains.
This was a major victory: Iranian arms for Hizballah can now go through from Syria to destination unobstructed. In more than two years of battling the Assad regime, this was one of the rebels’ most devastating losses after three weeks of bitter fighting and the last of a whole row of recent setbacks. Bashar Assad in contrast has gained huge advantages from his al Qusayr victory, as debkafile’s military sources report:

1. It cuts off the Syrian rebels’ main supply and communications route via Lebanon through which their Arab backers Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE to send them fighters, arms and funds.
2. Rebel positions in the nearby town of Homs become increasingly vulnerable, as the Syrian army regains control of the main highway links between Damascus, Homs and Aleppo. Qusayr also links Damascus with the Mediterranean coast, where Alawites and other regime loyalists are concentrated.
3. After the rebels were pushed out of Al-Qasayr, Turkey remains their only accessible source of supplies.

However, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has made a sudden U-turn. He had promised publicly to lobby for no-fly zones in his meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House Friday, May 17, to shield rebel forces in different parts of the country from Syrian air strikes. Instead, Edrogan threw his support between the international conference sponsored by Washington and Moscow for resolving the Syrian conflict. This told the rebels that the supportive Turkish channel was closing down.
It is obvious to them that the conference can only succeed if Washington comes over to the Russian-Iranian-Hizballah side and agrees to the perpetuation of the Assad party’s role in any future government. As yet, neither of the contestants has agreed to attend the conference for which no date has been set. However, Turkish backing and arms supplies through its territory are expected to shrink progressively to squeeze the rebels into accepting a formula which would be tantamount to bowing to the defeat of their uprising.

4. For Israel, the fall of al Qusayr means that while rebel supply routes are shut down, supply routes open up for the free movement of Iranian weapons from Syria straight to HIzballah strongholds in Lebanon. This would be Hizballah’s reward for its military aid to Assad’s army. If Prime Minister Netanyahu was serious about his promise Sunday to cut off Hizballah’s weapon routes from Syria, he has three primary options to choose from – none of them easy, to say the least.

Hezbollah gets hit by rockets in Beirut...
Two rockets hit Hezbollah district of Beirut
26 May 2013 - At least three people have been wounded by a rocket strike on the southern part of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Two rockets hit a district controlled by the Hezbollah organisation, officials and residents were quoted as saying by news agencies. Tension has been high over the conflict in neighbouring Syria. On Saturday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah promised his supporters they would prevail in Syria, where they are backing President Bashar al-Assad. Syria on Sunday said it had agreed "in principle" to take part in next month's talks in Geneva aimed at negotiating an end to more than two years of violence in the country.

'Terrorists and vandals'

There was no immediate indication who had fired the rockets in Beirut but Lebanese Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said the projectiles, believed to be 107mm rockets with an 8-km (5-mile) range, had been fired from a position to the south-east. One security official told Associated Press that rocket launchers had been found in woods in a predominantly Christian and Druse area, although this has not been independently confirmed. Dozens of militants from Hezbollah, a Shia Muslim organisation, are said to have been killed in recent fighting alongside Syrian troops, who face a mainly Sunni Muslim opposition. The fiery speech by the Hezbollah leader had raised fears that the involvement of his fighters in Syria would have repercussions in Lebanon, the BBC's Jim Muir reports from Beirut.

Jim Muir in Beirut: "The attack came just hours after the Hezbollah leader... said his fighters would continue battling with regime forces in Syria"

The leader of Lebanon's mainly Sunni March 14th movement, former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, said that what Hezbollah was doing in Syria was "political and military suicide", our correspondent notes. The missiles were Grad rockets, a Soviet-made weapon, an unnamed Lebanese security source told AFP news agency. Both landed in the al-Shayyah area. One struck a car showroom, causing injuries and damaging vehicles. Reports suggest those injured were all Syrian workers. The second rocket hit a residential building. A Reuters news agency photo showed the face of a building pockmarked by what appeared to be shrapnel, while video showed shattered windows blown across a living-room.

Another photo showed dazed men with cuts to their legs being treated in the street by friends. President Michel Suleiman condemned the attackers as "terrorists and vandals". Syrian rebel commanders have threatened to retaliate against Hezbollah in Lebanon, our correspondent says. AP reports that an opposition commander in Syria pledged to attack Hezbollah in Beirut. "We used to say before, 'We are coming Bashar'," Col Abdul-Jabbar al-Aqidi was quoted as saying. "Now we say, 'We are coming Bashar and we are coming Hassan Nasrallah'."

ISRAEL killed 1200 Lebanese and 90 percent were civilians. 40 to 50 percent were children

The doctor in Lebanon, in Tyre, sees his home bombed and the dead drug out of buildings, babies and the elderly. The American journalist asks, why did Israel bomb this building. He says thats American Democracy in action. And he says he hates America and he will fight them everyday. During the 34 day war in 2006, the US shipped multiple shipments of weapons to Israel and tried to block UN calls for a ceasefire. At the end of the war, I read one report stating that over 90 percent of people supported Hezbollah. Killing civilians in Lebanon increases Lebanese support of Hezbollah, an resistance organization created in the 80s after Israel went on another bombing campaign and killed 20000 civilians in Beirut. They were created to resist Israels Occupation of Lebanon that lasted for many years.

Hezbollah's brutal aggression against Israel started the war of 2006 ---
and hezbollah proceeded to further commit war crimes by launching
TENS OF THOUSANDS of baby brain smashing nail bombs
upon the civilian city of Haifa The sole purpose of nail
bombs is the smashing to the brains of---mostly children--they
have no military function at all. Every bomb launched
by Israel against Hezbollah in Lebanon was a LEGAL
MILITARY TARGET-----every death resulting from
those bombs was a MURDER by Hezbollah Hopefully
the matter of the gross CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY
comitted by Hezbollah in 2006 in Lebanon will be addressed
and hopefully its even more GROSS CRIMES in syria will be
addressed ------where far more lives have been lost to the
filth of Hezbollah than Hezbollah murdered in 2006 including
far more children. Hezbollah is a BLIGHT on the planet
which is steadily increasing its reach. I would not be
surprised if some Hezbollah unit enacted some of its
characteristic filth in the USA sometime--soon

This is a video of the kidnapping of 2 Israeli soldiers which was widely spoken of as starting the 2006 war. What all should keep in mind is that Israels response was to commit war crimes against the civilian population in Lebanon. Further, Israel was regularly invading Lebanons airspace on a regular basis before the kidnapping and was and still is occupying Lebanese lands, Sheeba Farms.

Israel and Lebanon are STILL technically at war------the occupation of
the sheeba farms is no more illegal than was the OCCUPATION OF
JAPAN BY THE USA post world war II ----in fact it is more legal
since Lebanon never surrendered. Israel comitted NO war crimes
against the "civilian" population of Lebanon---in the war of 2006
Hezbollah
comitted gross war crimes against the civilian population of Lebanon
during that war. Return fire IN TRAJECTORY is irrefutably LEGAL ---
every child struck by that return fire was MURDERED BY HEZBOLLAH.

Every nail bomb launched upon Haifa in 2005 was yet another gross
WAR CRIME comitted by Hezbollah---there were tens of thousands.
Nail bombs have no military value----they are used to murder children---
not much different from the habit of sneaking into houses and slitting
the throats of infants. ----Yet another feat called HEROISM by the
perverts of the world

"The devastation wrought by the Israeli offensive in Lebanon is clearly a terrible war crime. In concluding its report, Amnesty International called for the formation of an international tribunal into violations of international humanitarian law. While AI called for the actions of Hezbollah to be investigated alongside those of the Zionist state, it would be far more appropriate to call for an inquiry into the role of the Bush administration in aiding and abetting Israel’s war crimes, in particular by providing and replenishing its weaponry, and blocking any move for an immediate ceasefire." Amnesty International details Israeli war crimes in Lebanon - World Socialist Web Site. Justice would require intl bodies to address the issue of possible US war crimes, as well as war crimes by Israel.

LOL more comedy from THE MUNNER MUMMERS

somehow the mummbers left out the initial outright murder
of six Israelis and the barrage of TENS OF THOUSANDS
of baby brain smashing nail bombs into densely
populated city of Haifa -----poor mummer-----so
disappointed at the lack of PROFIT-----tens of thousands
of bombs------foiled by simple fortified rooms-----fret not,,
mummer-----thousaands of acres of cultivated land went
up in flames in northern Israel ----keep in mind
ONE SINGLE ACRE is about 5000 square meters.
FEEL BETTER NOW,, dearie??? Do not worry about
NUS-kharah-allah---he sat it out in a STEEL WALLED BUNKER--
whilst his bombers drove their mobile missile launchers to spots
making sure that the RETURN FIRE would hit lots of babies ---
you have such DELIGHTFUL friends

Hezbollah gaining power in lebanon

The murderous stronghold of Hezbollah in Lebanon will only further deteriorate the situation in that country as a result of of that terrorist group involvement in Syria.
Lebanon is already a weak country and this is only going to make it weaker. If Hezbollah continues with its participation in Syria the conflict will inevitable spread into Lebanon..... in fact, we can see this already taking place.

Hezbollah's presence in Lebanon is a BIGGER problem than just that---
hezbollah is spreading its filth thruout the middle east-----they are
in lots of countries including Egypt-----Yemen----and the non entity --
gaza -------they are the IRANIAN IMPERIALIST OUTREACH--
when the US gets annoyed with EITHER hezbollah anywhere in the
world OR Iran-----all kinds of trouble could accrue for Lebanon..-
Lebanon might was well be harboring AL CAPONE or OSAMA

Factories and businesses "As the AI report explained, the Israeli military deliberately targetted businesses, including the country’s few large factories.“Privately owned factories and businesses across the country—economic entities whose destruction could not be seen to offer a military advantage outweighing the damage to civilians—have also been subjected to a series of debilitating air strikes, dealing a further crippling blow to the shattered economy. The Lebanese government estimated that unemployment in the country has now reached an approximate figure of 75 percent." Amnesty International details Israeli war crimes in Lebanon - World Socialist Web Site

Civilian homes "According to a UN fact sheet issued on August 16, at least 15,000 civilian homes—houses and apartments—have been destroyed. AI noted that this figure was almost certainly an underestimate. The extent of the damage was graphically described by AI personnel in Lebanon:“Amnesty International delegates visiting towns and villages in south Lebanon found that in village after village houses had been subject to heavy artillery shelling as well as having been destroyed by precision-guided, air-delivered munitions. The accuracy of these munitions and their trajectory were such that they struck one or more of the main support systems causing the building to collapse or partially collapse under its own weight. In Beirut a vast area of densely populated high-rise buildings, which were home to tens of thousands of people most of whom left apparently encouraged by Hezbollah for their own safety, was reduced to rubble by repeated air strikes." Amnesty International details Israeli war crimes in Lebanon - World Socialist Web Site

"Citing a variety of sources, the Amnesty International report said Israel’s air force had carried out more than 7,000 air attacks, while the navy had fired 2,500 shells. The human toll, according to Lebanese government statistics, was estimated at 1,183 deaths, mostly civilians, about a third of them children; 4,054 wounded; and 970,000 people displaced, out of a population of a little under four million.Statements from the Israeli military officials seem to confirm that the destruction of the infrastructure was indeed a goal of the military campaign,” the report said. It said that “in village after village the pattern was similar: the streets, especially main streets, were scarred with artillery craters along their length. In some cases, cluster bomb impacts were identified.”“Houses were singled out for precision-guided missile attacks and were destroyed, totally or partially, as a result,” the report said. “Business premises such as supermarkets or food stores and auto service stations and petrol stations were targeted. The evidence strongly suggests that the extensive destruction of public works, power systems, civilian homes and industry was a deliberate and integral part of the military strategy rather than collateral damage,” the report said." http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/24/world/middleeast/24lebanon.html?_r=0. Under intl law, targeting civilians and civilian objects are war crimes.

"Many of the violations examined in this report are war crimes that give rise to individual criminal responsibility,” Amnesty International, the London-based human rights group, said in a report on the Israeli campaign. “They include directly attacking civilian objects and carrying out indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks.” http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/24/world/middleeast/24lebanon.html?_r=0 Amnesty finds unlawful targeting of civilians.
