I have been thinking about it since watching "Dancing With the Stars" a few times. I did not realize how physically demanding ballroom dancing could be. My father was a great dancer and loved dancing with my mother, but he never tried to force such activity on me. I always thought it was "not macho" despite my father's participation...I have since changed my mind and would really like to check it out.

My daughter does ballroom dancing, as well as any others. She's won a couple of contests at school. It goes with music major would be my guess.

My guess is that our parents were probably close to the same ages, my folks had done serious dancing with others before WWII, with each other, after, once my dad's wounds were all healed!

Ha, ha, ha- I taught ballroom dancing.

In about 1976 I won some free lessons from the local Fred Astaire
dance studio. I then signed up for a cheap few more lessons, because
it was fun, and the instructors were va-va-voom. Then they started
asking for longer commitments and more money, so I dropped it.

In 1980 I was looking for work, and the same studio had a want ad
in the paper for instructors, no experience required, $10 per hour.

I answered the ad, and the boss lady remembered me, and hired me.

I spent a few months with them, staying only one or two lessons
ahead of the students to begin with.

I enjoyed the work, but it never panned to any $10 per hour- few
people (like me, earlier) were willing to sign up for the expensive
extended lesson plans, and that was where the real money came from.

Then their paychecks started getting funny. None actually bounced,
but I was unable to cash them on the day I was paid because there
were insufficient funds to cover them. Time to find a new job!

The studio dissolved in a wreckage of lawsuits a few years later.

Although I have not done any ballroom dancing for years, I would
enjoy doing so again, as long as it was free.

My advise is, if you can get a few lessons free or cheap like I did,
go ahead and try it. Don't let them sell you on a big contract,
though, unless you have a lot of time and money.

I know a guy who took lessons for his upcoming 'first dance' with his new bride. It was difficult for him; but they worked at it and they finished their dance right on cue. Now that's love.

I'd only do it with a girlfriend or wife. To take ballroom dancing with her would be a bit of a romantic gesture, and probably fun, too. To take it on my own, with no woman, though, would be way too girly, no matter how much fun it was.

Now, if I were single, I'd take ballroom dancing in order to get chicks.
