In spite of the demonization from the right wing, Nancy Pelosi will come out as a hero in the passing of healthcare reform. In spite of all the intransience, obstruction, threats and egos involved, Pelosi has been able to hammer out a deal.

With this bill alone, Pelosi will go down as one of the most effective speakers in decades.

A Speakers career is not defined by approval ratings. It is defined by accomplishments. Denny Hastert was speaker for eight years and most Americans still do not know who he was. Pelosi will be able to show her work in hammering out the most significant legislation in our generation as well as Stimulus, TARP and the recent jobs bill.
History will not laud Pelosi for her popularity, but her accomplishments will place her among the top Speakers in 40 years

MA and TN have Universal HC. They are going broke with it. MA is already yelling for the Fed, i.e. the taxpayers, to bail them out. Wonder who will bail out the country when this thing bankrupts us.

Should those that survive starvation expect congress to pass legislation to ensure a square meal on every table at the cost of the taxpayer?

You see...you discriminate. You only want to help those that have issues wih only ONE life saving device...insurance. So where does it end? Is one without health insurance more likely to die than one without food? Without warm clothing? Without a roof over their head?

Sure, you can say "there are shelters, and there are clothes drives and there are food drives".....but there are also emergency rooms for free for those without insurance.

So why stop at insurance? Lets make sure there is law to ensure anyone in America does not suffer one iota. WQho cares if it is at the cost of libertoies and freedom of choice. Who cares if it results in a true re-distribution of earned income. Who cares if we go to a system of "give according to your means and receive according to your needs"

Are you saying that it is a right wing lie that the tax increases begin immediately, but the bulk of the benefits of the bill do not kick in until 2013-2014?
