Popular Science’s Dan Nosowitz introduces us to Ken Mampel, the 56-year-old unemployed Floridian who is largely responsible for the creation of Wikipedia’s Hurricane Sandy page—and its conspicuous lack of any reference to climate change:

When I talked to him, I believe he had slept for maybe 15 hours in the past five days. He spoke quickly and passionately but without any focus whatsoever, and even the simplest question could lead into a tangent from which I had significant trouble pulling him away. “Did you create the Wikipedia article originally?” I’d ask. Two sentences later, he was telling me about his son, who is about my age, who does something at George Washington University and is a veteran and received some impressive military medal and did I know that global warming is definitely not man-made?

Sandy was a hurricane. A hurricane has nothing to do with climate. Understand? The NAO and ENSO are short term climate patterns, sure, but have been going on for thousands of years. Pulling something out of your ass isn't science.

This guy is 100 percent right to exclude such as it would be idiocy to add such into a wiki article based on facts. I been watching hurricanes for 15 years so I know a thing or two of them.

Both seasons had far more impressive storm tracks and hurricanes then 2012. Outside of Sandy this season kind of sucked.

Joe Bastardi, meteorologist, says the present pattern is a replay of the 1950 scenario when the Pacific was cool and the Atlantic warm.

The Way it Is: Back to the 50s.

In 2006 , I loudly proclaimed on national outlets that we were going back to the 1950s as far as the climate pattern went and that the patterns of the 50s which opened the east coast up for hurricanes, as well as hot, droughty look, for the southern US would take over. The reason was simple, we were in a cycle roughly like the period when the PDO and AMO warmed and a flip to the cold PDO was on the way. So its not brain surgery to then go to the maps of the summer of the 1950s with heat and drought . . .

Assume that no one has ever denied man-caused global warming.

How would Sandy have been averted?

Would Gaea, upon seeing all of us holding hands and singing Michael Jackson's "Earth Song", have relented and chosen not to punish us for our sins? Would the world socialism demanded by AGW supporters have removed the eeeevil CO2 from our atmosphere and changed weather patterns? Would the High Priest of the Church of the Warming Globe, Al Gore, have prayed away the deadly storm on behalf of us mere mortals?
