Here's a new way to approach the ACA

Actually READ the FACTS.

Oh c'mon ... What can it hurt for you rw's to actually KNOW a FACT or two?

The facts of ACA are the problem, luddly. It's a corporatist horse-deal that trades guaranteed customers for guaranteed issue.

ACA was formed around the contradictory desires of voters and leaders. We (some of us at least) want socialized medicine, but we don't want to call it socialized medicine (it might scare the old folks). So we've come up with a half-assed "compromise" that is essentially the worst both worlds. It indulges the authoritarian, centralized control of a socialist solution to herd us all into one pen, and then hands us over to capitalist corporations as mandated 'cash cows'.

Just because it's in the bill doesn't make it a fact. Here's a fact: increasing the number of people covered by government healthcare will increase the amount of tax money allocated toward government healthcare.

Who has to pay for that? Taxpayers.

It's as simple as that.

Here's a fact: decreasing or ignoring the number of UNinsured, increases the amount that tax payers/insured have to pay in the form of higher doctor/hospital bills and lowers the quality of care.

It also increases the amount needed to help those who don't get the health care they need.

Any way you look at it - Americans pay for health care. Do you want to get more for your money, or less?

Or should Americans not have to pay anything at all?

American's should have to pay for the care they receive. From where I stand, increasing qualifications for Medicaid to 133% of the poverty level will increase the number of people on Medicaid by 50%. That's 20 million more people having their healthcare given to them courtesy of the taxpayers.

People just need to realize that healthcare is expensive. It's expensive because every pill you swallow or exam you receive is only possible because of dozens of people making it possible. You don't just pay the doctor. If the government wants to force people to get insurance, that's fine. The invisible hand will quickly provide affordable options. But ask any doctor who the hardest organization to work with is. They will tell you it's Medicaid. Expanding Medicaid will not be cost effective and it will no be successful.

For most Medicaid beneficiaries, the organization a provider works with is a private insurance company--often one that's competing with other private insurers for Medicaid enrollees at least in part based on the strength of that provider network they've built and are maintaining.

I hope this one's just very young... 'cause that can be fixed.

But the argument is that all of these people receive medical care already by going to the emergency room whenever they become sick, and at a cost much higher than if they went to a doctor. So if we are already treating them at a higher cost, does it not make sense to treat them in a way that is more cost effective?

And, if you check it out, you find that EMTALA is basically surf and turf. You get stabilized and sent away.

Thing is, "stabilized" can mean a whole boatload of different stuff. Like, baby delivered, illegals aborted, all kinds of stuff.

Note that illegals from the south are usually catholic so they don't abort unless they have no choice but, if the woman is in bad shape, abortion needed, the ER does it and those of us who carry health insurance pay.

Cracks me up that the knee jerk Obama-haters have backed themselves into this corner where they have no choice but to say they're in favor of SOCIALIST medicine (EMTALA) paid for by the taxpayers but they hafta lie about it.

ACA is just the opposite but they can't admit that.

It's true that they get care through the ER at a high price, courtesy of the taxpayer. But the ER only provides care immediately vital to survival while expanding medicare would also cover general care, tests, home healthcare, and many other costs. It's a double edged sword. Plus, will ERs still be expected to turn away illegals? I doubt it.

Personally, I think we need to stop naively believing we can provide all healthcare for every person when every year research develops new, more expensive procedures. When NASA landed on the moon, we didn't all demand a free ticket to space. Why do we do it with medicine? We think that just because it exists it is our right to have it, regardless of our ability to pay for it.

Yes, it's good for most people in the world, but not for Americans.
You should inform yourself. Ayn Rand collected Medicare and Social Security, BTW.

It's good for Europeans and Canadians. The former is going bankrupt left and right (let's follow their financial policies, yeah?) and the latter takes months to get a nonvital surgery.

And since Rand utilized SS and Medicare it's her fault? She didn't create the system. If the government forces me to pay into SS, I'm definitely going to use it. Rand also lived in a time when Medicare didn't cover everything and actually worked. But now, due to baby boomers and excessive coverage, it's on its last legs.

Hey nitwit - I've posted a lot of links to a lot of very legit sites. They're all too intellectual and use too many big words so the rw's don't like them.

And, if you don't like this one, and if you happen to have access to the InterWebs, you can EDUCATE YOURSELF. Just go to googlefuckingdotcom and search for what you want to know.

Typical of an rw to idolize someone they also disagree with.

Medicare - you haven't a clue how well it works but why don't you post some PROOF that it does not work and that its "on its last legs".

Rand was also vehemently pro-choice, pro-abortion. Bet that's okay with you too.

And, I'll bet you agree that if someone smokes their whole life, they should be able to get money from the government for their lung cancer surgery, right?
