Does anyone think this is not a play by the federal gov't to exert control over the states? DOes anyone think the fed gov gives money without numerous strings attached?
ANd does anyone think this is a good idea that will do anything positive?

Sorry E-delta, you already tipped your mitt when you said "better to bail out the states than the banks", like you expect bailing out states to already being a foregone conclusion, (which it isn't, but very well could be).
But the endless welfare 'bailout' mentality in your mind and others' is not only limited to individual, but NOW applies to corporations and then states.
You and others have already welcomed furthur socialism with open arms and a 'bring it on' attitude, as concerns continuing bailouts, across the board.

You're right when democrats control all 3 houses of government there is no end to their spending spree. They will never cut the size of government to decrease the deficit. My God--lay off a government worker--NO WAY--not a democrat controlled adminstration and congress--LOL. Unfortunately this time they have driven us over the cliff. Our kids and grandkids are going to end up in a 70% tax bracket to pay for all this crap. All those "saved" government jobs.

Mayor Bloomberg and other NYC officials support a Muslim mosque/entertainment complex being built next to the WTC primarily because of the positive economic impact they foresee it will have.
This is a prime example of how broke as a joke we're becoming in this country.

That's just moronic. Never did I say anything of the sort. Bailing out the states is not a conclusion until the congress passes it, and it hasn't. This is mere deflection.

Sorry B-Kidd, but this is just a bunch of ideological drivel. All I did was convey to you what is taught in any basic macroeconomics course in any university in any part of the world. There are arguments, even some good ones (i.e. RBC theory), against bailouts, also available through the most elementary courses. However, instead of finding them or trying to figure out just what the hell I said and refuting it, you just toss your hands up in the air and say "well, you're a socialist" - which is just sad.

Whatever you're learning just boils down to an entitlement mentality and as a result, with continued application, continues to rapidly creep towards socialism, whether any of us like it or not.

It will end when any one of a few things happen.

1. Our national 'credit card' is cut up by lending nations. Then essentially, the whole of liberalism falls to the ground in a great jangling crash. You'll see severe cuts and programs ended first at the fed level, then the states when the bailouts don't come then the local. The layoffs caused by short sighted and panicked politicians flailing for their very elected lives will be elaborate and hysterical and extremely damaging. The corruption will be immense as many try to save friends and family members and screw the rest.

2. The political will overwhelms the current powerstructure through elections and more rational austerity programs go into place like universal cuts, budget freezes and trimming of selected services, privatizing more but generally keep things MOSTLY the way they are now, just smaller.

3. Political revolution will purge the current power structure, hardliners will grab the books, audit the shit out of them, prosecute the incomptetents who don't run away fast enough, and hunt down the rest. Meanwhile severe austerity cuts in select sectors of government will happen, and the savings will be used to pay down debt and other financial liabilities. We will lose most friends abroad since they will probably lose their bribes, and much internal 'humanitarian' aid will end as well. The nation will turn VERY isolationist.

4. The conservatives don't get into power, or nationalists, but the globalists do, and we get 'bought out' by the UN. (no I don't really see this)

5. The economy collapses and we fall into civil war or French Revolution like fervor. Millions die in the sectarian bloodshed to follow and leave the nation permanently shattered into state and multi state regions.

Regardless... it WILL end.
