Here is a BS thread; What is an independent voter?

This could be the most ridiculous thread I have ever made. It should go without saying. We independents have come under attack for declaring ourselves. Some seem to feel that if we agree with the Democratic Party on an issue we have been "outed" as liberals.
Aside from the fact that this is just stupid, it is not true. Following is the Wiki definition of an independent voter.

Independent (voter)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An independent may be variously defined as a voter who votes for candidates and issues rather than on the basis of a political ideology or partisanship; a voter who does not have long-standing loyalty to, or identification with, a political party; a voter who does not usually vote for the same political party from election to election; or a voter who self-describes as an independent.

Yawn.

It's probably just a co-inkydink that Bulletin Board "Moderates" and "independents" always wind up under Obama's desk

CrusaderFrank...why don't you jump off a high cliff with a heavy anchor tied to your legs?

What a walking piece of turd-muffin you are...if a person isn't a Far Right Wing Nutjob they are useless in your eyes.

Get a life you blowhard!

Could well be true, but tell me this, what have your politics had to offer independents other than complaints, and putting down everyone elses ideas?

I wonder what are your feelings towards the self-proclaimed Tea Baggers?

I'm an independent voter that has the ideology that the government should keep its nose out of everybody's business and that it doesn't know any more about how any foreign country should be run than it does this one. The pretty much eliminates all Republicans and Democrats.

Check out this thread. This effort at civility by me turned into the kind of fiasco that I anticipate this one will turn into.

It is not that I dislike either political party, and most of my friends are partisan one way or another. The far right loves to pull independent guys like me into their mess, and label us Dems. There is nothing wrong with Dems, except that I am not one. I am Independent. What fools, these conservatives, right-wingers, or Tea Baggers are, they should be trying to persuade us into their thinking. I have come to dislike them just because of how I have been treated in USMB. I do not like this as I try to stay open-minded to new ideas.

I'm a Conservative. My politics offers you a nation where there is increasing less and less governmental interference and you keep more of your money and make more of your own choices. If that terrifies you, then you're either a liar about your "Independence" or a coward.

I'll check it out now.

You're right, the total nutjobs on the Right that frequent message boards such as this really make you start to hate these people. No matter how you try to be civil and treat them as humans they really act out in subhuman ways and the only way to communicate effectively with them is to communicate in the only language they can understand. With that said...the only people worse than the net are the wackjobs on the radio...both the hosts AND their nutty callers.

The only consolation is the knowledge that they are only hurting themselves.

November is going to be a great time in this country.

I can get all that from a moderate Republican, and even some of it from the Democrats. Repeat; What do you, (conservatives), have to offer other than complaints, and putting down everyone else's ideas?

this should be good...

:eusa_whistle:

I'm an independent, like you, because I feel both parties are mostly full of shit. But, reality is the only way things will get done, or blocked from being done, is through one of the two parties. So, you gotta pick your poison. I am strongly conservative in most views, but not Republican because I am also pro-choice, pro-gay marriage (not gay at all, far from it, but I feel states should have this law based on their voters), and very VERY strongly states rights, which explains my last two. I personally am not gay, and would never seek an abortion, but feel that among our 50 states, all people should be allowed to find a state that allows them a certain lifestyle within reason that goes along with their beliefs.

I prefer the conservative, religious South. I live on the gorgeous Carolina coast, and love it. San Francisco would be hell for me, but, am glad it is there because those folks have a place they like also.

I think that is what truly being independent is. To want a community that fits your desired lifestyle, while also being aware of the need for those who disagree with me to also have a nice community somewhere that fits theirs, and we can all mingle at vacation resorts to discuss our differences over a drink.

When government tries to step in to take money from me to subsidize other's lifestyles, or mandates or bans things I may enjoy that hurt no one else, that is when my strong conservative/libertarian side comes out.

Um....freedom?

Thats all I want is freedom. I don't want something "offered" to me by a politician. I want the freedom to earn a living, have a family, seek recreation, succeed, fail, learn, love, cry, get fat, get in shape, get sick, get better, etc, etc, without the government overseeing the process or mandating and directing how I should do it in their eyes.

Along with the above, I am ok with a modest 10-15% income tax to fund the military, police, fire, teachers, roadways and some basic welfare services for the disabled and elderly. Other than that.........I don't want what any politician is "offering" other than freedom.

But lately, lots and lots of left wingers are knocking at my door "offering" more and more government goodies that I don't want, and that I don't want to pay for.

So thats the answer. Not so much what can conservatives offer, but what can they limit. Limit government interference, and freedom will increase. When we stop asking what a politician can "offer", and start focusing on what we as individuals can "earn", we'll be better off.

Some admirable ideas. Freedom is a popular idea, but not really a conservative one. In fact my moderate Republican relatives would agree with what you have said. I as an independent go along with what you are saying. But, you've really brought nothing new to the table except ideas moderate Republicans have been working on for years.

But, here is where your arguements fall apart for me. Why should citizens get ripped off by insurance companies, medical corporations, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals to feed their profits? The Government can do it for a whole lot less.

You see the ship has sailed, Obamacare is the law. Tie that in with the giant steps conservative Republican bankers took to usher in American Socialism, and you have a new direction for America. President Obama is trying to preserve the free enterprise system. Some liberals have labeled him an "Eisenhower Republican." America does not have any more time to invest in these complaining, racist, Tea Baggers. To you I politely say, "America, love it or leave it."

or a voter who self-describes as an independent.

Hmmm

My whole point in bringing this thread to the board was that Independent voters, are people who support a candidate or issue regardless of political party. I resent those, almost exclusively from the right, who promote their way as "the only way." They should be trying to logically present their views to me in a persuasive, not a threatening, manner.

I am sorry to see that like so many threads these days, a thread about independent voters has turned into another chapter in the Tea Bagger saga.
